    Default Lalo's Account Talk

Hello, I am currently sitting 100% in G. Every time I use the F fund, I get burn. Hoping to get back in stocks as soon as I can. Possibly into the S fund. I think with China raising their interest rate, it will affect the I fund, maybe in a small way.

Just so you know- there are absolutely no Chinese stocks in the "I" fund.

The portions of what stock exchanges are used and what stocks do change from time to time, but at the present time, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany and France are the largest segments of the "I" fund, with many smaller exchanges and countries a part as well. But so far, NO China at all.

That ought to be a suggestion we pass along to the Thrift Board- to rebalance the "I" to include a small portion of the growing market segments (China and India most notedly).

Has anyone ever been shorted on the amount paid for a stock when you transferred from one fund to another? What, if anything, can be done about it?

I think I know how TSP works, but recently I believe I have experienced what amounts to being short changed.

Hypothetical: If for example I have 22545 shares in the G-fund on 10-25-07 valued at $12.18 each share for a total dollar value of about $274,600 and I do an Inter fund transfer (IFT) at COB that day into the I fund. At the end of the day 10-26-7 (available the next day after 6:00 am) I would have bought 10,610 shares in the I-fund valued at $25.88 for a total of the same amount $274,600. Then if I IFT on Monday (10-29-07) from the I-fund back into the G-fund at COB the end of the day; Should the TSP pay me the $26.02 value of the I-shares I had before IFT back to the G-fund.

I do not know how I ended up with only 22667 shares of the G-fund at $12.18. The total amount of money is close on 10-29-07 was $276,089.00 Does that look right to anyone?

If the "I" fund gained that day that would explain it. They don't charge you for an IFT!!

    It looks right.

You've got $274,600, so you can buy:
    $274,600 / $25.88 = 10,610.51 shares

Then you sold the I fund shares at $26.02 each:
    $26.02 * 10,610.51 = $276,085.47

You said you had $276,089, probably some little differences from rounding. Plus, the TSP actually has each fund's price calculated to ten decimal places. We just don't see it on the price quotes. So, with $276,089 you can buy 22667 shares @ $12.18 each.

    $276,089 / $12.18 = 22667.4 shares

Thanks Fabijo, I don't know what I was thinking. But both of you are correct. My mistake.
