Hi ChongoChingi,
You asked about reading stuff. I like the For Dummies books. They have several in the financial field. I have several, but for TSP and trading, it's the Trading for Dummies by Michael Griffis and Lita Epstein. They run around $25 new.
I'll just list this one for now, cause other members have their favorates too!

So on Friday shouldn't I have been at 100% G and then today be at
40% G 30% S&I?

It shows me as of Friday being 40%G 30%S&I. If you change it before noon eastern on a day it takes affect before the end of that day? Its not for the next day? At no point last week was I at 100% G...

You were 100% G fund for Friday but this InterFund transfer (IFT) was effective Close Of Business (COB) on Thursday on 8-17-2006. You made another IFT for COB Friday, 8-18-2006, to 40% G, 30% S, and 30% I.

I have added you to the TSPTalk Weekly Tracker. Your return performance will be published in this tracker on a weekly basis, each weekend. It will show your return starting from 8-18-2006 at 100% G to the COB Friday of each week. Rokid and FundSurfer will publish monthy, quarterly, YTD, 12-month return reports, but your return performance will not show up until the end of September, at which time you'll have a full month of tracking.

Well tsp.gov showed me at 40/30/30 G/S/I for friday and that is what I am at today. I dont know if it just didnt work correctly or what. So for future reference if I do an IFT before noon on monday then Tuesday it should take effect?

I know it is confusing because the TSP.gov site states your transfer was effective on 8/18, but they mean the COB on 8/18. You are at the new asset allocation starting the following trade day.

If you make a IFT move before 12:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Monday (8/21), it takes place that same day at COB fund prices. You start gaining/loosing the following day (8/22) with the new fund asset allocations based upon that days closing price.

Your IFT today will be entered into the Weekly Tracker for COB 8-23 (Wednesday). You need to post your IFT move by 12:00 pm EDT for it to be entered into the tracker for that day's COB fund prices. We use the same rule as TSP.gov, except I do allow some leeway in posting late to your account. Today your posted to your account at 1:28 pm and this falls outside the leeway I give members.
