Thread: S & I FUND/GREECE FINANCIAL DILEMMA

  1. Default S & I FUND/GREECE FINANCIAL DILEMMA

Hi Everyone, I have my money invested in the S & I fund. With the financial situation occurring in Greece, should I move my money out of the S & I fund. If so, what funds do you recommend. Or should I keep the money in both of these funds. I have heard when you move your money, you lose money.

    Thank you

You only lose money if you sell for less than you bought the stock for. I would think the Greek situation is priced in, since it has been ongoing for such a long period of time, but a few days of selling wouldn't surprise me either. That's good news for me, since I've been out of the market and looking for an entry point.

Only you can decide how comfortable you are with the risk. Consider how long you have until retirement. That will give you an idea as to how much risk you can afford to take on. If you're close to retirement, you might want to move some or all of your money to the safety of the G fund. If you have several years to go, you might consider letting it ride. You have time to recover if the fund values drop below your buy in price. Hope that helps. Good luck!
God bless the United States of America!

If you decide to 'ride it out,' don't get weak in the knees and bail when it gets scary (sticky pants apply), that oftentimes is near the bottom and moving out at that point would be a mistake; rebounds can be quick and a bad whipsaw can result (selling low, buying high). With the Greece situation approaching and summer volatility in play, I got out near the market top a week or so ago; looking for a nice low point to get back in. These are my musings and not investment advice, never take investment advice from someone who is still working for a living.
