June Report Card:

Well the old raven did not fair so well for the month of June. For the month, I was down -0.60%. I spent the 1st through the 16th invested 50% S and 50% I Fund. The S Fund worked out well, posting a gain of +0.81%, but the I Fund was -1.42% for the same period, so that trade netted an overall loss of -0.31%. With that, I decided to bail and changed my allocation to 80% G Fund and 20% S Fund effective COB 16 June. I should have went 100% G, but the S Fund had been good so far, so I left a little in. Big mistake as the S Fund was down 2.01% from June 17th through June 29th and my 20% share of that resulted in a loss of -0.35%. So the last day of June found me invested 100% F Fund which netted a gain of 0.05%.

I think the biggest mistake I made was not following my system. I started chasing returns and basing my decisions on other people's moves. Had I followed my system, I would have been 100% S Fund early in the month, bailed to the G Fund when the S Fund hit the upper bollenger band and then jumped back into the S Fund when the Dow lost 350 points. Another lesson learned the hard way.

So this morning I submitted my first IFT for July, going 100% S Fund. This decision was based strictly on my system. First, yesterdays closing price was below the 100 day SMA. Yesterday was positive and with today's anticipated gain, I should have a positive crossover of both MACD and Slow Stochastics. I did a little research and when the closing price falls below the 100 SMA, it typically fights to get back to at least the 18 SMA. Of course, the news out of Greece is having a huge effect on the markets, so here's to hoping the S Fund doesn't climb to high as I'm buying in at todays closing price.

As for C, F and I Funds, I think China will have a drag on the C Fund, Puerto Rico will have a drag on the F Fund as well as the possibility of interest rates rising and I'm just a little gun shy with the I Fund no matter what the outcome.

Interesting fact: Of the last 7 Fridays (today since markets are closed tomorrow) the C Fund was down 7 times, the S Fund was down 6 times and the I Fund was down 5 times.

Note: There will be no Best Fund/Worst Fund next week as I will be extending my holiday weekend through next week to spend time with family.

Well, I'm back home again. Had a great time visiting with family and seeing the sights in Tennessee. Really enjoyed the trip to Lynchburg to tour the Jack Daniels Distillery and the trip to Memphis to tour Graceland. All in all it was a great trip!!!

When we arrived in Memphis for a family visit many years ago (age 12), my Uncle who picked us up at the airport terminal said to me in his slow Southern drawl: "Joe Mark, can you feel it?" I looked at him strangely and said "Uncle Nelson - Feel What"?. I always thought he was a bit different. But, he looked me straight in the eye and said in his most serious and eloguent voice "Why Elvis of course"...My Mom and Dad almost fell down on the ground laughing so hard.
