Hi, Had lots of fun last night. Stoplight, I sang Blue Bayou! Yes ...hit every note including the last high note. So its still within my current range. I was able to keep it extended and stayed in tune throughout. Hard to do now as I am not the blowhard I once was!!! Lol..
. You can send me the big "rock" next week!!
I wanted to sing Magic Man too, but could not as the place got crowded early and it was taking up to 1.5 hours between songs and we got there late and because I can no longer hit the super high notes
that Heart sings in Magic Man towards the end....background ooooowwwww, ooooow wooo woooo ooooouuu. I tried it before going out. If I do sing it someday, I"ll need to bring that background part down an octave, which is doable since its not part of main lyrics. Ive probably lost about 1-2 of my highest notes but might get them back if I practice at home.
I also sang Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Pat Benatar.
It was a weird night because usually the oldies are sung early in the evening and as it gets later and packed, the younger crowd arrives and everyone starts singing very upbeat, current songs and the shake your booty type songs. I was going to sing Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood but it got too late.
Last night, it seemed to be oldies night as young people were singing things like Sinatra's New York, New York; Heart's -Alone; James Brown's -I Feel Good, Patsy Cline's Crazy, etc.... And songs I did not know, up until we left around midnight. So I sang Blue Bayou around 11pm and oddly it fit right in. It was very well received.
Did you know that Linda Rondstadt can no longer sing?? Thats so sad. She has had Parkinson's disease since 2012.
I also like Edie brickell's song. I love her laid back vocal style.
One of the best things I love about singing is that if you sing in the same style as the singer, keeping every subtle inflection and yet varying it at certain points with your own feeling and style, you can feel and really get into the great emotion of the song and can feel how the artist felt as they sang or played it! Just getting so emotionally connected and blowing it away is a great physical and emotional release. Huge stress reliever...both music and song is awesome and does wonders for the well-being of your soul!!!
