Somewhere in the past someone that I think might have been you, posted stuff about changing all the light bulbs to CFLs to save money and feel great. I could not find the thread. The search function in this MB is pretty useless.

This came to mind as I was replacing two of the last few remaining CFLs today. These I did not write a date on as I started doing earlier on but they did not seem to last as long as a comparable incandescent. They were the very expensive "dimmable" kind so probably 4-5x the price. Plus now I have the dilemma of disposal. The EPA says throw them out with regular trash. My own community no longer has hazardous waste pickup days as they couldn't find anyone to take the stuff. Mercury is not a hazardous waste anymore?

Well whatever. Was that you nnuut? Is there a thread somewhere about these CFL things that are saving the polar bears (unless they dig one up)?

    PO

Yes that was me! And they don't last much longer than the old bulbs did. I had to replace two last week, agreeably they are supposed to burn less energy, but I put in 42 of them in one day and never noticed a change in my electric bill and they cost at least 5 times more! Yes my son there is anthropogenic global warming!

I had two CFLs outside in fixtures next to garage, two in garage door opener motor and one in fixture near front door; within 2 months the garage door opener CFLs burned out; next the outside garage CFL's died as well, one right after the other. The fifth one in fixture by front door burned itself out, five in a 6 month span. Replaced them with the old incandescent light bulbs. Incandescent light bulbs are being phase out by Uncle Sam. Regulations for manufacture of incandescent bulbs became effective I believe in January of this year. This was just my decision; went and bought $600 worth of incandescent bulbs, yes, I hoarded multiple cases from several stores that still had them. Just my take on CFLs vs. Incandescent light bulbs. Some of my neighbors like the CFLs fine, to each his own.
