Post How to! --> Posts, Threads, Etc.

New member ezmoney sent me a message last night through the report post feature, asking how to create a post.

ezmoney- in order to make a posting, you have a couple of options. First, if the thread already exists, and you want to add a new message in that thread, simply go to the bottom of the thread, and, right below the last message, and to the left of it, you'll see a little "post reply" button that looks like this:

Hit that, and then a new open box will appear. You simply type in that box, and then, when you are finished, hit "quick reply" right underneath that.

That posts the message in a few seconds.

If you want to change fonts size, add links, add pictures, or something else like that, you can also hit the "go advanced" button instead of the "post quick reply" button, and it will give you more alternatives.

Try that in this thread, and let us know you are here. Then we'll add some more things for you.

    thanks

    Jim

But the real question is how do you start a new thread of your own?

    I can help-

Where would you like to start it?

(the answer depends on your answer).

If it is in one of the open BBS, then you just click on the main heading, like:

"retirement planning". When you click on that general heading, you'll see all the threads that are already there. Go ahead and look around, and see if one of them fits your intended post. And go back in time to the previous page while you are at it.

If one of the threads fits, please use that thread.

But if none of the threads fits, and you still think your message deserves a thread, and fits under that general heading, then look for this:

Click and that, give your thread a new title (headline), and you can post your first message for that thread.

Caution- please look around to see if a thread fits before you create a new thread. You are welcome to create something new, but everytime a new thread is created, one of the older threads is pushed backwards on the list and is harder to find.

And from time to time we try to merge threads together that make sense. So if you see a good candidate for two different threads that should be merged, send a PM to one of the moderators and ask if they look like candidates to be merged and cleaned up.

We VERY RARELY ever delete messages. We do, however, sometimes merge appropriate threads to try and keep things easy to read.

    thanks

    Thanks James,

I'm not ready to start my own new thread yet. But I did want to know how to use the board better. Thanks for the P&F school also, I'm learning a lot.

    Thanks,

    TonyMan
