Thread: Deferred Retired DOD guy now selling toys

  1. Default Deferred Retired DOD guy now selling toys

Morning from Charleston WV! New member here with a bit about me and a question.

Me: 8 yr active duty AF Firefighter, 17 yr HazMat Prep outta Elmendorf AFB. Moved back to Charleston WV when my father passed away (Mom says come home....you come home). Bought military time back & deferred 25 yrs of DOD until I hit the age to kick it in... that should be fun being out of the system.

So now I'm self employed, online retail shipping out of a warehouse in my hometown (Toy Hutt plug).

Now my question: I have just over 100K in my TSP, unable to add anymore seeing I'm outta the system. I have Wells Fargo held IRA, mix of traditional and Roth around 25K. Wells Fargo has a nice (and free) tracking tool that I use & I would like to add my TSP amounts into the tracker. The problem is the allocation shares/amounts are not adding up with the multitude of symbol's I'm attempting to use.

Any stock index symbols that can get me close to my 100K tsp allocation?

    Thanks! - Bob

Good morning Bob. nice to see someone working on a post-fed retirement idea for income. thanks for sharing. As to indices and/or stock symbols, I use $spx for C, $emw for S, $akg for F, $iee for I. G is pretty much equivalent of but slightly better than cash. another index symbol equivalent to S that works on certain sites, is DWCPF as Userque told another tsptalk member last night.

There are ETF equivalents, but they have some tracking error. SPY for C, AGG for F, like that. Welcome to tsptalk.

the individual share price of c-fund does match the individual share price of $spx which he would be using in the bank software to track progress is part of the issued referred to here.

that can be solved by looking at the total dollar amount in tsp c-fund (not number of shares or share price) and dividing that total c-fund amount by the actual share price of $spx on that same day. then you would have number of equivalent shares of $spx that equal your total investment in c-fund. when the software automatically updates share price each day following that, then your total dollar amounts in each tsp fund would match pretty closely.

you would repeat this calculation any time you did a tsp fund transfer. total dollars in tsp fund divided by share price of $spx = number of shares to enter into bank software.

    alevin,

Howdy from the previous new guy post author!

Charleston, eh? I grew up and attended school in Wayne County, just south of Huntington. Marshall grad. Without getting into the PII, did you attend school in Charleston?

I have been reading up in here on the tools and trades of the experienced TSP trackers and traders. Tons of stuff. A lot can get lost in the modulation, as it were.

Gook luck, and hope the Kanawha doesn't get another chemical spill while you are there.

Hey daddytin, good mornin', . sorry to disappoint, think you must have me mixed up with someone else here. my southernisms come from years spent in piedmont northern VA, with a titch of coastal VA southernisms picked up from high school classmates, and a titch of sw mountaintop VA southern mountainisms picked up from short stint post-highschool in Appalachia VA. I've been a westerner my entire post-highschool life. this is a great site for information sharing on tsp retirement and other subjects, depending on interest, welcome!

Welcome to the Forum Breedlove and best of luck with your TSP. I'll let the Excel experts handle the tracking problems, plenty of help here.

    Bob,

Welcome to TSPTalk. Great place to learn. If it was me I might do a little more research and more than likely move all my money out of the TSP system and get it into to an IRA I can add to on a monthly basis and put together a good retirement package. Without being able to add any money to your current TSP account it won't do much for your retirement.

The symbols I use to follow the GFCSI funds are F-AGG, C-^GSPC, S-^DWCPF & I-EFA.

    Good luck.
May the force be with us.

Opps. Yes, seems I got my old man eyes on the first reply post rather than the OP.

Anyways, cheerio and all that stuff. Maybe Breedlove will respond to my errant TO line!

Big thanks for all the input gang! Really appreciate it. I've been on the fence about moving my TSP funds into my personal WF account, problem is - no Wells Fargo in my hometown, ha! As for adding the symbols, for some reason the "$" symbols won't take (I'm I inputting them wrong?). Lastly - So I don't have to much the share for share, just the dollar amount. Can do on that. Will try it out and thanks again!
