    Default Freezing in Massachusetts

What better way to avoid the cold here in MA than to think about retiring to some place warm! To make it happen, I need to afford to retire and snowbird south. So I just found this site and hope by learning from all of you I can leave this nasty weather behind.

A little about myself. I'm turning 53 next month and hope to retire at 62. I'll have 33 years in. I've been maxing out my contributions for a long time and for the last 2 years been doing the catchup. Couldn't swing it this year. I ran some projections on my tsp using the tsp online calculator for projected account balances and at 5% yearly expected return I should have a little over $1m. I'm hoping to do better than 5%. The best year I had was in 2013 (27.37%) followed by 2010 (20.64%). Disappointed with 2014 (9.22%) and 2012 (7.86%). I don't even want to talk about 2008 . So you can see I need some help. Thanks for reading and hope to talk to you on the boards.

Yup, my little coastal town in Maine has been hit with over 15ft of snow. This is the first winter that I understand why snowbirds go south. Good luck with your retirement planning and distraction from the never ending winter.

Welcome Retire in 2024. You will probably make the $1M mark in no time.
too bad, I don't have much time to make the $1M mark.
but I am happy with what I have, although 40% more before I retire will be great
