    Default Hello from California.

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum but not to TSP, I am 46 and plan on retiring at 56 and 8 months so I am really trying to learn as much as I can and get the most out of my money. I've lurked from time to time just reading and trying to get any tips or indirect advice I could dig up.
Great forum and hope to learn and get the most out of it and hopefully contribute where I can. On January 28th I will have exactly ten years to go and I am trying to get an exit strategy in place.

Sounds like a good plan. Best of luck to you.

Thanks, I have my TSP maxed out and will bump it up to the $18000 pretty quick. I also plan on maxing out the catch up when I reach 50 and I'm still not completely happy with where I will be, so I'm looking for my next investment strategy to put more money into retirement. I have a wife who makes good money so that helps a lot, she is a few years younger and has it in her head she is retiring when I do. LOL

    Hey,

Keep quiet about the following retirement idea. Keep the good woman in the salt mines till she gets to retirement age. Think of all that compounding that takes place while she picks at rocks and thangs...

Welcome to the forum, I'd offer to trade wife's, but I think you have the better deal

P.S. No trade for the kids, you can have 'em...

    Welcome Toby,

You and I are about the same age with the same goals. But....my wife is six years older, so I need to retire early so that we can have a life of retirement before the rest of her health starts to make her "sidelined"!

Good Luck, and welcome to the "Talk"

It sounds like we're in the same boat there. Her career field as of now will pay her more than I make in the prison system unless I promote, but she is also younger by a few years. We both have a long way to go (both in our 20's), but I know I'll focus most of my salary on investing when her big buck paychecks start rolling in.
