It's not about a day off work to celebrate the arrival of summer.

It's about the men and women of this nation, who came before us, and who gave their all in the service of our nation.

One of the things I remember on Memorial Day is how the middle class cowards deserted their country and duty to run to Canada during the Vietnam conflict.

Flag reminder.

Half staff until noon then full staff.

Rise flag to top then to half staff is proper procedure. Then at noon raise it to full staff.

I remember them everyday and give thanks for everyday for their sacrifice for our safety. My wife has had 3 cousins in Iraq, 2 of them from day one invasion, but are home now, but have had several tours.

Cpt. Tom Shafer was my stick buddy during flight school. We served in the 219th AVN Co. He was on a recon mission when he took ground fire, during the evasive attempt he became involved in a mid-air collision (1969).
