Apparently Obama is the only one in the picture that paid attention in 1st Grade, which is where I was taught that you only put your hand over your heart to say Pledge of Allegiance, and keep your hands at your sides when you sing/listen to the National Anthem. I've noticed over the years that a lot of people apparently have forgotten first grade lessons or never learned them in the first place.

Nope your are incorrect..Your grade school must of been in Moscow.

During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171
LOL, I spent first grade in one of the reddest northern states in the union. I decided to check around the web on the subject too. Apparently even some of the companies that make a living from citizen patriotism give guidance similar to what I was taught. Other people out there on the web are saying they were taught the same way I was, right, wrong or indifferent. Thing is to show attitude of respect during the anthem, according to how we were taught to show respect. All people in that photo were standing in attitudes of respect, most likely according to the way they were taught. Right, wrong or indifferent. Don't read something into it that isn't there, i.e. disrespect.

When the National Anthem is played and the flag is not displayed, all present should stand and face toward the music. Those in uniform should salute ...All others should stand at attention [note, article does not say "all others should also salute"]. "When the flag is displayed, all present should face the flag and salute.
Maybe that flag company is based in Moscow. Better beware who you buy your flags from.

You left out the best part!

I'm SO glad we violently agree! Showing respect the way we are taught, is an entirely different matter from whether we were taught the proper way in the first place. So long as a person shows respect according to how they were taught, it says nothing negative about their level of patriotism. I have full confidence even a conservative can tell the difference between the two (Oh, the audacity of hope). OK, I'm done now.

Two things that turned me off about Perot..

    1. He wanted to put a .50 cent tax on gasoline immediately. (imagine paying that now)

    2. He abandoned the fight when he almost had it and then came back, then left again...(shows me he can't stick to a decision)
He is human unlike the other two and not use to Washington politics. Someone is going to have to start making the unpopular tough chose.
