If you work for the DoD you can obtain a free copy for use on your home computer.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone recommend antivirus software.

It's free and it works-I've used it for years with the automatic update.

Most computer viruses are variations of the same theme. I don't know why people pay for Norton or McAfee.
On my XP PC I use the built in Firewall found in XP.

OR get a MAC. On my iBook I never have any problems-I use the security updates from Macintosh.

I use Avast, the free home-use edition. You can find it at http:://www.avast.com

I usually keep my antivirus turned off and only run scans on files that I am uncertain about. But that's just my way of dealing with it all. I don't have a habit of using the software that gets attacked the most (eg: Outlook, Internet Explorer)

    AVG anti-virus (Free Edition)
    http://www.grisoft.com/doc/download-...virus/us/crp/0

Currently using the free edition. Previously bought and used AVG Pro which includes a "zone-alarm" type firewall with a few more bells and whistles, but the basic virus protection is the same. Since XP has plenty of (maybe, too much) built-ins for stuff like pop-up blocking, antispam, etc. and my router doubles as an active firewall, I believe I'm reasonably protected. Been using AVG for several years on different computers and operating systems.

I agree with spaf and budnipper1 I used both AVG pro at one time and the spy-bot search and destroy. They are both worth using IMO...but you know opinions are like buttholes...everyones got one and most stink.

I use Antivir by Avira, just the free version. Also the free spy bot and the windows firewall. No problems since I started using this combination. They update every day automatically
My other computer also has zonealarm, but i consider it a pain in the rear.(effective though)
