I thought the current rate was $0.41 per mile. This is what I get paid for going to Seattle and back for VA medical appointments. Or is this rate for official government business only?

VA medical is totally different. VA sets that one.

This one - at .51 a mile, is the rate federal employees get for using their own cars for the conduct of official business.

By the way- if you are getting a VA rate of .41 that must be rather recent. It used to be a LOT lower. It was .11 cents a mile for more than three decades, until Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), Chet Edwards (D-Texas), and John Salazar (D-Colorado) got it raised in 2008.

Yeah, I think they just did that within the last couple of years. I just recently got service connected so it's the only rate I've been exposed to.
