Save Hummer Motors in America Summit’ to be Held in Chicago

General Motors is already winding down operations at its Hummer brand, but it seems some individuals outside the company are lobbying for the marque’s survival. A newly formed capital management firm, dubbed Capital & Labor International Coalition (CLIC), is planning a “Save Hummer Motors in America Summit” April 11 in Chicago.

Thane Ritchie, chairman of CLIC, called for the summit, and is planning to invite all of Hummer’s stakeholders and dealers, several influential UAW members, and Jim Taylor -- Hummer’s CEO -- to the conference. Two management leaders -- President Doug Ebey and CFO Glenn Geiman -- from the UAW local representing the H3 assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, have already confirmed their attendance. Ritchie and CLIC are apparently interested in going to great lengths to try and save the Hummer name.

“We have researched the GM/Hummer situation for the past month, and we believe that Hummer can be saved and continue to offer great jobs and products in America and globally,” said Ritchie.

“We are assembling all of the Hummer stakeholders together in one place to work out a ‘coalition’ solution, said Steve Denari, CEO of CLIC. “Our discussions thus far with the United Auto Workers executives at the Hummer plant all the way through to the Hummer owners’ group leaders have been hugely positive.”

Denari added that CLIC senior management has also met with U.S. Senator Roland Burris, D-Illinois, and asked him to act as a liaison to the government for any possible aid in saving Hummer. Burris confirmed the discussions, and noted he wants to see the ideas that come out of the Chicago summit.

GM representatives could not be reached for comment regarding its stance on the coalition to save the brand.

Armed assailant had his eye on Hummer, not on victim's gun

Customers at the Academy Sports & Outdoors in the 2600 block of N.W. Loop 410 had to duck for about 10 minutes as two men began shooting at each other in the parking lot.
The victim told police he was loading up his vehicle after shopping when a man with a gun surprised him from behind and demanded the man's Hummer. That's when he pulled out his own gun in order to protect himself. As it turned out, that shopper is also a licensed concealed handgun carrier.
While the shootout was going on outside, an announcement instructed customers inside of the store to find shelter.
Two vehicles were hit during the exchange of bullets, and so was the shopper. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hip area, but he is expected to be OK.
Meanwhile, witnesses say the suspect took off in a white small 4-door car. The getaway driver was last seen westbound on the highway.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and have a description of the gunman.

That "F-250 Super Chief" was nothing more than a concept car at the 2006 auto show.

May be nice, but not in the card for production from anything I can find.

Go ahead and call them and order one. Tell them you have to have a hydrogen powered one.

I'd be interested in hearing what they say.

I'd like to but they won't be available until 2012, as far as I can tell.
