So, more interesting details concerning the January Barometer

As I mentioned before, when the S&P 500 finishes January positive, the index finished the year higher almost 85% of the time, with an average gain of 10.4% in the final 11 months of the year.

This year had an extra twist, as the S&P 500 was never in the red on a year-to-date basis during the month and didn't close lower by more than 1% during any day. That's been a pretty rare occurrence, and has only happened 7 times. That's a pretty small sample size, but in each instance, the S&P 500 closed the year higher, with an average gain of 15.4%.
