    Default Interfund transfer

I did a interfund transfer from 100% G to 100% I fund prior to the deadline yesterday:

    Date of Request: 01/10/2006
    Time of Request: 11:06:17 Eastern
    Effective Date: 01/10/2006

    However, I am still 100% G fund.

I just called and was told this:

"Your request will ordinarily be effective within 2 business days."
    ---------------------------
Having the noon deadline is bad enough.

Making a transfer and have it "ordinarily be effective within 2 business days" is a real handicap.

A lot can change in the stock/bond markets in this timeframe.

Has anyone else did a transfer prior to the deadline that has not be processed?

It looks like we are being pushed into the L funds. I can not wait until I can pull my money out of this scheme. Yeah, yeah: Low fees. I would rather pay a higher fee and not have a "deadline" that could take up to two business days and having a index fund that can be "massage" so you can not time it. An ETF I can be in and out and 2 seconds and not have to get grind to dust waiting for a transfer to be processed.

Off the soap box. Just curious if anyone else is doing transfers prior to the "deadline" that are not going through that night.

Just for the fun of it I called them back. . "ordinarily within two business days".

This is my last entry here.

I do not have time to play TSP games right now. Trying to do transfers and knowing what will be going on "two business days" from now is not doable for me or my patience. Yeah, yeah: Before it could be months before the transfer was complete. Months or ordinarily within 2 days - it is the same to me. As soon as I am eligible I will move my money to ETFs. Being "massaged" and "deadlined" just does not work for me.

    Good luck everyone.

I Fund should make up a little of what it recently gave back. European and Asian markets were up earlier today and the dollar is currently down against the Euro.

Wizard ----> The IFT went through, but they dont update the "Account information" until roughly 5a.m. the NEXT day. So rest assured, before 12pm eastern and it WILL be effective, just not updated yet. Ok? So trade away, 12pm eastern deadlines.

    Wizard,

I still like the idea of tax deferral - simply get a second part-time job and open another account using ETFs, other wise I do enjoy the song "Don't Cry For Me Argentina." Be patient you got more years to go and we can't afford to have you burn out. Take care.

WIZARD THAT HAPPEND TO ME LAST WEEK AS WELL. I made a IFT and it did not take effect for 2 days, I first thought I made it after the 12p deadline but the entry was made prior to 12P

Whenever I go to tsp.gov and put in an IFT by the deadline, it always says, it'll be two days to process. But, it is always effective by the next day for me if I get it in by the deadline the day before.

You guessed it. My transfer went through last night. Which means I missed the .15 gain yesterday. Looks like I am going to take a hit on my transfer back to G fund today. Ya got to love it.

The above sounds great. I work in a country where I am not eligible to get a part time job. I have built up a pretty good ROTH IRA account so the TSP account is not that important to me. Especially probably when I am eligible to take the money out the fed tax rate will be 60%. So it is not that big a deal to me.

You can only roll old debt into new debt for so long. The 5 year treasury auction yesterday was very poorly received. That is just the tip of the iceberg for this month of our new debt flooding the market.

Also, any word of a ROTH 401K/TSP for us? My brother started a ROTH 401K this year. That would be off the charts great benefit. Since our TSP we have to pay fed/state tax when we start taking the money out. Future tax rates will be off the charts.
