Stock market edges lower as Trump weighs on oil; indexes set for weekly gains
U.S. stocks edged lower on Friday, as the latest batch of corporate earnings were unable to fully offset comments from President Donald Trump about crude-oil prices that sent the commodity lower and pressured the energy sector. First-quarter earnings have largely come in ahead of forecasts, with General Electric the latest to beat consensus expectations. The Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC) was off 35 points to 7,203, a decline of 0.5%.
