    Job growth stronger than expected in October, unemployment rate slides to 6.9%

    Nonfarm payrolls increased by 638,000 in October and the unemployment rate fell to 6.9%.

    Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had forecast 530,000 and 7.7% respectively.

    Hospitality and professional and business services showed the biggest gains. Government job losses subtracted from the total.

    The U.S. economy added 661,000 jobs in September, as state and local government job cuts slowed the coronavirus jobs recovery. However, the unemployment rate eased to 7.9%. A lapse in fiscal stimulus and potential fall wave of coronavirus cases raises risk of further slowing.

    Nonfarm payrolls increased by 1.37 million in August and the unemployment rate tumbled to 8.4% as the U.S. economy continued to climb its way out of the pandemic downturn.

    Payrolls up by nearly 1.8 million, topping expectations despite coronavirus resurgence

    Nonfarm payrolls increased by 1.763 million in July and the unemployment rate fell to 10.2%.

    Both numbers were better than respective Wall Street forecasts of 1.48 million and 10.6%.

    Record jobs gain of 4.8 million in June smashes expectations; unemployment rate falls to 11.1%

    Nonfarm payrolls rose by 4.8 million in June, much better than the expected increase of 2.9 million.

    The unemployment rate fell to a crisis low of 11.1%, also better than the 12.4% estimate.
