Daily Market Commentary

Stocks opened the week with a gap higher and while the indices wavered some during the day, the Dow and S&P 500 climbed back by the close to finish close to the intraday highs. The market leaders that we have been a little worried about, the Transports and small caps, had strong days but they closed off their highs and remain in or below their bear flags.

Stocks were mixed and fairly flat again on Friday with the Nasdaq being the lone positive of the U.S indices, and the Dow and S&P posting slight losses. The small caps and Transports lagged again, each dropping 0.4% on the day, and the I-fund had a nice day as the dollar gapped lower.

Stocks were down across the board on Thursday and the small caps and Transportation stocks lagged once again. However, some early deep losses were erased and we saw upside intraday reversal patterns on the charts once again. The Dow ended the day down 24-points, well off the 144-point loss we saw near the open.

Once again stocks were mixed but hung around the breakeven level with just minor gains or losses in the three main indices. The Dow lost 33-points but the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted small gains. It has been quiet out there and the VIX remains near 25 year lows.

After a positive open, stocks drifted lower on Tuesday but once again we saw a mix of results as the Dow lost 37-points and the S&P was down 0.10%, the Nasdaq held onto a solid gain, while the Transports bounced back and small caps were flat. The dollar rallied and that put some pressure on the I-fund.
