  1. TSP Talk: Relief

The recent action on Wall Street was turned on its head on Wednesday as what has been going up, came down, and what has been going down, went up. The price of oil was down more than 12% and that exhale gave the oversold stock market a reason to move higher, and investors have been waiting for a reason to buy some beaten down names. The Dow jumped 653-points, and that was the market laggard as the Nasdaq and small caps ran up over 3%, while the S&P 500 had to settle for a 2.6% gain. The I-fund ...
  2. TSP Talk: Oil nearing $130 continues to pressure the stock market

An early afternoon rally fizzled out and stocks ended another day with losses, although there were some positive areas as extremes kick in. The Dow lost 185-points and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also suffered more losses, but we did see small caps and the I-fund managed to hold onto some of those afternoon gains. fter stalling at key resistance, stocks resumed their downside action with another round of selling on Friday. We did see a couple of attempts to push the indices higher, and that may be a result of some short-term oversold conditions, but the fear of headlines has kept the buyers at bay. The Dow lost 180-points on Friday with small caps, and the poor I-fund taking the worst of it. The 0.76% rally in the dollar didn't help. Bonds rallied.

  5. TSP Talk: Flip flopping

Stocks opened higher on Thursday, but many indices immediately hit the tops of their short-term ranges and flipped right back over, closing closer to the lows of the day. The Dow lost a modest 97-points, the S&P500 and Nasdaq had more meaningful declines, while the small caps and I-fund stocks were hit hard as the recent back and forth action continued. We saw some volatility in yields and the price of oil, which moved over 116 at one point in the day.
