There was mixed action this week among the stock indices. Small caps (S-fund) added .7% while large cap stock indices were down nearly 1%. The new month brings new highs in stocks. All of the major stock indices (S&P 500, DOW, NASDAQ, RUSSELL 2000) reach new record highs Friday. What made that particularly peculiar was that the day started with a jobs report that was quite short of expectations. 245,000 jobs were added last month while economists surveys expected an addition of 440,000 jobs. The bulls held onto this week's Monday rally to close at record highs by the end of the short holiday week. Stocks opened up higher Monday after more positive vaccine news and the Joe Biden choice of Janet Yellen for the Treasury Secretary. Short term concerns overshadowed long term optimism to push large cap indices down after two weeks of gains. However small cap names became targets for moving money giving the S-fund more than 3% in gains.
