Stocks tumbled this week but it was the S and I-fund that took the greatest hit. Large cap C-fund slipped this week but hit its low Wednesday with a 1.49% loss for the week up to that point; the index would climb higher the next two days to settle for a 0.55% loss for the week. Stock indices split direction this week. Large caps remained in a tight trading range while adding gains four of the five days; rotation out of small caps left the S-fund down for the week but the chart didn't sustain much technical damage. The S&P 500 produced new all time closing highs four consecutive days starting Tuesday and on; Friday was the S&P 500's 48th record close of 2021. A shaky start to the week is followed by steady momentum higher pushing the S&P 500 to its 44th record close Friday. Earnings have been moving the market this week but it was the July jobs report that maintained higher highs in large caps to end the week. The jobs report came out with an addition of 943,000 jobs and the unemployment rate slipped down to 5.4%; both better than expected numbers. The delta variant of covid-19 has added concerns to investors about the pace of economic growth going forward. ...

It was a big week for stocks with big name earnings, the FOMC meeting, and economic data. The mix resulted in choppy action throughout the week and stocks finished mixed with large cap indices down and small caps flat. Decent earnings from Apple, Microsoft, and Alphabet were unable to spring stock prices higher. Amazon's disappointing earnings and forecasts put the stock down 7.6% Friday and the weight pushed the market down with it to solidify losses for the week in large caps.

Stocks started the week off with a sell-off but rebounded and soared higher the rest of the week. All the TSP stock funds were down more than 1% after Monday's action. The C-fund followed up with four straight days of gains and even closed Friday with a new all time high.
