With Trump in office and moving quickly on some of his campaign promises, stocks were up and some indices broke out of their extended trading channels. Headlines are the main catalysts for stocks but the momentum halted Thursday and Friday with no significant moves in stocks. The Dow finally hit the over talked about arbitrary 20,000 mark this week. Investing is a game of psychology though, so the attention on the Dow hitting this benchmark may create a mental support line in traders' heads.

All of the TSP funds were in positive territory this week but the F-fund was just off of flat while the S-fund led with a 1.36% loss.




Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending January 27th:




The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) broke above its more than month long trading channel Wednesday producing an open gap. The index did remain above the trading channel for the rest of the week and the gap remains open. The C-fund was up 1.04% for the week.




Just as with the SPY, the Dow Completion Index (S-fund) broke above its trading channel and produced an open gap. However, the Dow Completion Index did fill the gap Friday without falling back within the trading channel so it has a better chance of upside from a technical point of view. The S-fund led the TSP funds for the week with 1.36% gain.




EFA (EAFE Index / I-fund) made some moves that broke resistance but it too opened a gap. The index stopped on its track to test more resistance and partially filled that open gap on Friday. The I-fund was up 1.29% for the week.




Despite stocks being down, AGG (Bonds / F-fund) has been unable to reproduce the momentum of late December and early January especially now that stocks are getting the attention of traders. The F-fund ended the week nearly flat with a gain of 0.06%.
