Mixed, tentative action preceded the release of June's jobs report as investors were prepared for more disappointing numbers like they saw in May's jobs report. Stocks sparked Friday after the report exceeded expectations with an addition of 287,000 jobs, the strongest month of hiring since last October. The rally put stocks above their record closing price intraday while closing just one point below it.

Bonds rallied too, reaching new highs and giving the F-fund an increase of 0.59% for the week. The S-fund led with a gain of 1.53% while the the I-fund lagged with the only loss for the TSP funds.




Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending July 8th:




The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) broke above rising resistance intraday Friday and closed at the line reaching new highs. An open gap is still lingering below giving reason to see Friday's rally as a short-term peak. The C-fund was up 1.33% for the week.




The Dow Completion Index (S-fund) led the TSP funds this week but did not reach new highs in the process. The highs of Friday topped out at rising resistance but also broke declining resistance from the previous two peaks. The index also has an open gap below that traders will have in mind. The S-fund was up 1.53% for the week.




EFA (EAFE Index / I-fund) had the only loss for the TSP funds but was able to break above the declining resistance of the recent apex formation. EFA is surrounded by two open gaps and is within the overhead gap giving investors reason to see gains in the near future. The I-fund was down 1.13% for the week.




AGG (Bonds / F-fund) hit new highs Friday as it continues to grow above its trading channel despite four open gaps below. The F-fund was up 0.59% for the week.
