TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

Stocks were mostly flat with volatility falling during the four day week, however Friday was taken over by the bulls who were able to push the indices to new highs after Greece secured a four-month extension to euro zone funding avoiding bankruptcy… for now. I guess that was good enough news to buy.

Modest gains were produced this week across the board for the TSP stock funds, with new highs made in the U.S. TSP stock funds, while the I-fund continues to lead in 2015. Oil stayed above $50 a barrel, which seems to be the level to keep stocks above sea level. The F-fund (bonds) were down while yields went higher.

Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending February 20th:

The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) has continued to stay above its old resistance line and possibly new support line of around 209 for 5 days now. It saw new highs after Fridays rally and posted a 0.68% gain for the week and 6% gain for the month.

The Wilshire 4500 (S-fund) is outperforming the C-fund and hasn't slowed down after surpassing its resistance line with ease last week and has also reached new highs. It ended the week slightly over 1% and is now up 6.39% for the year.

The EFA (EAFE Index / I fund) has been unstoppable so far for 2015 and has outperformed all other funds for the year. It passed its resistance line with no problem and saw modest gains throughout the week ending just above 2% for a the week and is up 5.46% for the month.

AGG (Bonds / F-fund) ended just down 0.36% for the week easing up on its dive toward support lines and now its 50-day EMA has turned into a resistance line. Bonds broke through the down side of the bear flag mentioned in yesterday's market commentary but managed to close back within its boundaries.
