    Trade war tensions had their greatest effect yet on stocks this week as things heated up a bit more between the two largest economies in the world. Stocks took the greatest heat on Monday with a gap down and more than a 1% loss across indices. For the rest of the week large cap stocks jumped around without recovering those early losses but also the selling pressure did not persist either.     Action in stocks was mixed throughout the week and all the TSP stocks funds took a loss by the end. The initial disturbance once again came from trade war worries as tariffs are starting to become more of a reality for the global economy. Stocks opened down early in the week and dip buyers were there on queue to buy into those losses. However, profit taking took place for the second half of the week and the cycle couldn't recover leaving negative weekly returns across stock indices.

    A lot went on last week for the market and each index reacted in its own way. Large caps stalled but weren't sold, small caps were up as usual, while bonds recovered from poor technical positioning. The associated TSP funds were all in the green for the week but at different degrees. Only the I-fund found itself in negative territory as the European Central Bank was unable to impress investors with their inaction on interest rates.

    This week an end came to the sideways movement of stocks that had endured since mid-May. Buying from the celebrated jobs report the previous Friday carried into Monday to put stocks into positive territory where the would remain for the week.     Stocks failed again this week to find direction, although they ended on a high note. Each day of this short holiday week contained its own catalyst but neither the good news or bad news of the day could carry over to the next. The market fell early this week following international stocks due to political drama in Italy, the third largest economy in Europe.
