  1. 2014 back in the red

    Stocks opened slightly lower on Monday, and treaded water for a couple of hours before the bottom started to fall out of the indices. This decline comes as we are heading into earnings season, where we are seeing a lot of negative pre-announcements. The Dow lost 179-points and all of the TSP stock funds are back in the red for the year. Bonds rallied.

  2. Strange jobs report - now what?

    Despite the Dow losing 8-points, stocks managed some solid gains of Friday after the weak jobs report was announced. The I-fund led the way helped by weakness in the dollar, and bonds and the F-fund rallied on the news as yields fell sharply.

  3. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up


    After a slow start to 2014, stocks rebounded last week and showed some resilience by not breaking down after the weak jobs report on Friday.
    The gains took the S-fund out of the red for the year, but the C and I-funds still show minor losses. The F-fund, last year's dog, has been the early leader so far this year.

  4. Jobs Report Results

    The jobs market added 74,000 jobs in December, well below the 197,000 estimated. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.7 percent, the lowest since October 2008, as more people left the labor force.

  5. Flat in front of Jobs Report

    Stocks opened higher on Thursday but quickly lost ground and many indices were little changed by the close. The Dow lost 18-points, bonds were up modestly, and the I-fund lost about a half of a percent.
