  1. Fed spooks markets


    Stocks were very quiet heading into the Fed policy announcement at noon ET, but things got a little more noisy after that. It was a volatile afternoon and by the close the Dow had lost 114-points. Most stock indices and bonds were down on the day as the dollar spiked.

    Stocks rallied again on Tuesday with the Dow adding another 89-points. Small caps led the way yesterday and bonds also posted a gain. Today, Janet Yellen takes the stage so the market will get a better idea of her thoughts on the economy, and monetary policy - possibly a market mover.

    Stocks opened sharply higher on Monday, and while Monday morning gaps have a tendency to not be be trustworthy, the indices actually held onto the gains - or most of them - all day. The Dow ended the day up 182-points, while small caps lagged and bonds pulled back.

    Stocks were mixed on Friday but there was certainly tension in the air leading into weekend that would see a referendum on whether the
    annexation of part of the Ukraine by Russia would pass. The Dow lost 43-points while the small caps put together a fairly good day.

  5. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up


    Stocks had a bad week last week as the Dow was down all 5 trading days. That hasn't happened since May of 2012. The market seemed to be pricing in a bad outcome from the referendum to be held Sunday on the annexation by Russia of part of the Ukraine.
