  2. Positive reversal heading into jobs report

    The bears tried to put some pressure on when the market opened on Thursday but pesky dip buyers were right there to put them back in their place again. The Dow gained a healthy 81-points and closed at a new record, but for the most part the late rally took the major indices to about break-even on the day.

  3. Volatility returned... somewhat

    The market showed a little volatility, as we might expect on an FOMC meeting day, but most of the movement came before the policy statement was announced. We saw some larger early gains evaporate by early afternoon, but stocks tried to battle back and closed with mixed results again. The gained 58-points, but that was off the 140-point gain it had near the open.

  4. FOMC and Tax Deal day

    Stocks were up for the most part yesterday with varying degrees of results as the Dow added 29-points or 0.12%, and the S&P saw a similar percentage gain. The Nasdaq had a big day, as did small caps, which recouped Monday's losses. The Transports continue to lag and we're watching a similar pattern on the S&P being created right now.

  5. Dip on tax cut rumor

    Stocks pulled back from Friday's rally but as we've seen more often recently, the losses varied dramatically depending on the index. The Dow lost 85-points giving back more than the 33 it gained on Friday, as did the small caps which lost 0.79% on Monday. The S&P 500 gave back less than half of Friday's gains, and the Nasdaq gave back virtually none of the 144-point gain from Friday.
