  1. Dow up, tech struggles, positive reversals

    Despite the Dow gaining 23-points on Wednesday, it was mostly a down day for stocks yesterday, with the S&P 500 dropping 0.28% and small caps slipping about 0.6%, but all stocks came well off the morning lows as we saw reversals after the S&P gap was filled.

  2. Last year at this time was big for stocks. Can it repeat?

    An early rally faded on Friday, but that selling was met with a late afternoon rally that took the indices closer to even, and in the case of the Nasdaq and small caps, pushed up for moderate gains. The Dow lost 22-points and the S&P 500 and Transportation Index were flat.

  3. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

    The bulls had control during the last week of August. We saw mostly one way buying action for the first half followed by weaker action the last days of the month. New highs were hit in the stock indices with credit given to celebrated trade headlines but the counter negative trade headlines were unable to match the effect. Volume has been light as the summer wraps up but it seems the bears are the ones extended their vacations.

  4. A mini tariff tantrum

    The stocks market took a break from its 4-day rally and pulled back a bit on Thursday. The indices opened slightly lower but a mid-afternoon $200 billion China tariff comment from President Trump quickly pushed back the dip buying attempts. The Dow ended the day down a modest 138-points, and the losses were fairly broad, although nothing too serious.

  5. New highs again

    Stocks were making another round of new highs again yesterday as the Nasdaq led with a 1% gain, the S&P was up 0.57%, and small caps added 0.36%. The dollar was down, the I-fund was up, and bonds were slightly lower but basically flat. The Dow gained 61-points, about 42-points off the highs of the day.
