  1. TSP Talk - Stocks are melting and testing a key moving average

The melt-down continued as a morning rallied failed again on Thursday. The S&P 500 was positive as late as 1:20 ET and then they pulled the plug on the attempted rally. Something has changed this month and the way it flipped as soon as the calendar turned to August is a little suspicious, but we did come into the month knowing August and September can be sluggish. Yields were up again pushing bonds and the F-fund to an interesting low - maybe a short-term bottom?

  2. TSP Talk - Fed minutes destabilize the indices

The release of the Fed Minutes isn't usually a big market mover, maybe a midday bump, but yesterday the July Minutes gave investors some concern over interest rates again as the Fed continues its hawkish rhetoric and have not ruled out additional hikes. The Nasdaq led with a 1% gain yesterday and the S&P 500 saw a late rally to push it to the highs of the day. Small caps and the I-fund lagged as higher yields and a stronger dollar put some pressure on them. Bonds were down and testing recent lows.

  5. TSP Talk - Market mixed after wholesale prices up

Stocks opened lower on Friday after the slightly elevated inflationary Producer Prices report was released, but the bulls battled back, only to see the action get very choppy in afternoon trading, and into the close. The results were mixed with the Dow gaining 105-points, the S&P was down slightly, and the Nasdaq was down for the day, and for the week, making it the first two week losing streak this year for the tech heavy index. Bonds were down sharply as yields moved up on the PPI data. ...
