  1. TSP Talk Market Commentary 02/07/2020

    Stocks looked like they had a great day on Thursday, and for the most part they did, but there was pockets of weakness. The big three, Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq did just fine with all of them making new highs, but some of the market leaders like the Transportation Index and small caps posted some red numbers. The Dow gained 89-points.

    Stocks rallied again on Wednesday and that's three pretty strong days in a row coming off that mid to late January sell-off. The Dow gained an impressive 483-points leading the way along with the Russell 2000, but that gain in the small caps was a little bit of a tease for those of you in the S-fund. The I-fund was up but it had to deal with another big rally in the dollar. Bonds were down on the day.

    Stocks rallied back on Monday after the dramatic losses on Friday, but the magnitude of the rebound, along with the light volume and slight fade near the close, makes it a little suspect. The Dow gained 144-points, well off the highs, while the Nasdaq and small caps led on the upside with gains over 1%. The I-fund lagged dealing with a strong dollar yesterday, and bonds were down slightly but they came back from steeper morning losses.

    Stocks rallied out of the gate on Tuesday, gapping up and trying to erase recent losses. The Dow has now gained back most of Friday's losses, but not all yet. The S&P 500, Nasdaq, and small caps have all gained back more than Friday's losses and, thanks to Tesla, the Nasdaq actually closed at an all-time high. What a difference a couple of days can make.

  5. TSP Talk Market Commentary 02/03/2020

    Stocks took a turn for the worse on Friday as investors seemed reluctant to want to hold into the weekend while the coronavirus numbers continue to to rise. The Dow dropped 603-points, and while the dip buyers were there on Thursday to buy the morning dip, they stayed on the sidelines on Friday and watched stocks decline all day without making a move.
