Stocks fell sharply on Friday with the high flying large tech companies of the Nasdaq actually lagging for once. The Dow lost 228-points, while the S&P 500 and small caps each gave up about 1%. The I-fund held up better thanks to some weakness in the dollar - finally. The dollar had been up 11 of 13 trading days in February before Friday's decline. Bond yields are at, or near, all time lows, and the 90-day and 10-year yields are inverted.

Investors ran to safer investments this week as the reality of the virus outbreak begins to seep through the cracks. Stock investors have been able to look past media hype of the coronavirus while putting their trust in central banks to stimulate the economy when needed. But when a couple U.S. companies, starting with the power house Apple, announced they won't reach revenue projections next quarter because of the slow down in China, investors were quick to retreat stocks and buy up government bonds, ...

Stocks were up in early trading yesterday, but it turned into a wild Thursday after a dramatic late morning sell-off had traders a little confused. The Dow went from early gains into a free-fall where it was down about 385-points within 30 minutes or so, then spent the rest of the day trying to climb back before closing down a modest 128-points. Small caps held up best and the late rally actually pushed them back into positive territory.

Stocks rallied on Wednesday gaining back the losses we saw on Tuesday. I guess the Apple warning on Monday was a fake-out because even its stock got back its losses already, despite no news. The Dow gained 116-points and the Nasdaq's large tech stocks just continue lead and climb. Small caps did well, as did the I-fund despite another rally in the dollar, which has been up in 10 of 12 trading days in February so far.
