  2. TSP Talk Market Commentary 03/18/2020

    The stock market rebounded strongly on another Turnaround Tuesday, but we've been waiting more than a month now for the market to be able to put together two positive days in a row. Losses the day after a big gain have been dramatic all month, so the bulls have their work cut out for them today.

    The carnage continued on Monday as the fear frenzy has escalated to a new level. Stocks are being beaten down, and after another press conference on COVID-19 late yesterday before the closing bell, we saw a move lower into the close to see the Dow lose another record 2997-points. Little was spared although bonds rallied back strongly from last week's beating.

    An alarming explosive rally in the last 20 minutes of trading on Friday turned a strong day for stocks into the largest point gain ever. The Dow jumped 1985-points, a record, but that was still quite a bit short of Thursday's 2350-point loss. We haven't seen back to back positive days in the S&P 500 since February 12, so today's another test for this new bear market.

    Nowhere to hide outside of the G-fund. A failed deal between Russia and Saudi Arabia resulted in significant drop in oil over the weekend; an unforeseen addition to the market turmoil already stirred by the coronavirus outbreak.
