  1. A 3rd gap opened...


    Stocks opened the week with a gap higher and while the indices wavered some during the day, the Dow and S&P 500 climbed back by the close to finish close to the intraday highs. The market leaders that we have been a little worried about, the Transports and small caps, had strong days but they closed off their highs and remain in or below their bear flags.

  2. Mixed, slow, and leaders are lagging


    Stocks were mixed and fairly flat again on Friday with the Nasdaq being the lone positive of the U.S indices, and the Dow and S&P posting slight losses. The small caps and Transports lagged again, each dropping 0.4% on the day, and the I-fund had a nice day as the dollar gapped lower.

  3. More of the Same?

    I really thought the market was going to do better last week than it did. All three TSP stock funds closed with weekly losses, and it was the S fund that led the way again.

    The S&P 500 has traded in a range for the better part of 3 weeks now. It tested its previous all-time high early in the week last week, but fell back by week's end. Still, it's in the middle of its range so it wouldn't take much for it to retest that line of resistance ...

  4. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

    Background political issues kept the headlines busy this week but investors are getting use to this. Traders struggled on whether to buy or sell with no real catalyst and we saw low volatility for most of the week. Finally the market made its big move (mostly likely initiated by computer programs) for the week with a sharp fall early Thursday.   5. Big sell-off, big reversal


    Stocks were down across the board on Thursday and the small caps and Transportation stocks lagged once again. However, some early deep losses were erased and we saw upside intraday reversal patterns on the charts once again. The Dow ended the day down 24-points, well off the 144-point loss we saw near the open.
