Stocks showed some life this week, but a single day of losses settle an extended market. All three TSP stock funds were up for the week for the first time since the week leading up to Christmas. A rally that started the previous Friday carried on through Wednesday. By Wednesday's close, the C-fund was up 3.56% for the week, the S-fund was up 4.02%, and the I-fund was up 3.44%. Nonfarm payrolls rose 467,000 in January, well ahead of the 150,000 Wall Street estimate.

Leisure and hospitality led the gains, while professional and business services and retail also posted big numbers.

Wages surged, rising 0.7% for the month and 5.7% for the year.

Massive revisions juiced up the November and December totals by 709,000.

Thursday was another session where the story during the day was turned on its head in the after hours trading. The Dow lost 518-points on the day, but the 112-point loss in the S&P 500 was cut in half after hours when we got strong earnings out of Amazon.
