  1. TSP Talk: Another bear market rally, or just some relief?

The rally continued on Friday capping a very nice week for the stock market as we saw weekly gains in the C, S, and I funds of +3.68%, +4.91, and +2.41% respectively. You've got to love rallies in a bear market, but we are heading into another important inflation reading with Tuesday's CPI report, and of course the Fed is watching and they could base the size of their next interest rate hike on that number. The Dow gained 377-points. Small caps and the I-fund led with gains over 2% on the day, ...
  2. TSP Talk: Some upside follow-thru after a choppy day

It was another whippy day for stocks on Thursday after a better than expected jobless claims report and an interest rate hike from the European Central Bank (ECB) sent stocks lower, but the oversold bounce fought through the headlines and stocks managed a respectable gain on the day. The Dow gained 193-points and the big three indices all gained about 0.6%, while small caps led with a gain of over 1%. Bonds were down as yields ticked up after Wednesday's decline.

  4. TSP Talk: Bear market action persists and bulls look for relief

We came into Tuesday morning with modestly higher futures but the selling quickly started after the opening bell. We saw some attempts by the bulls to buy the dip but the selling persisted into the afternoon, although the morning lows held on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. There seems to be a lot of geopolitical events swirling around and sentiment is getting very bearish again. The question is, is all the bad news priced in yet, because there sure is a lot of it. The Dow fell 173-points and the ...
  5. TSP Talk: Goldilocks jobs report on Friday triggers big morning rally, but it didn't

We got an almost perfect jobs report before the bell on Friday as far as not being too hot, and actually raising the unemployment rate, which is what the Fed wanted to see happen, but the initial bullish reaction faded at noon ET, and the Dow fell about 700-points off its highs to close down 338-points. That included a nearly 140-point rally off the lows in the final minutes of trading. So it was a rough day for the stock market and the bulls, who thought they had a big rally to end the week. ...
