  1. Pay No Attention to that Man Behind the Curtain

    Since 2008, there have been numerous policy manipulations to stimulate growth in the economy since 2008. One of them is Quantitative Easing (QE), which came in several phases through the years. Another policy maneuver was the Zero Interest Rate Policy (ZIRP). ZIRP is a method of stimulating growth while keeping interest rates at or close to zero. QE and ZIRP were both expected to help stimulate the economy, but regardless of what the media may tell us, they have been ineffective.

  2. Global Banks Under Pressure

    Economic growth on a global scale has been a big concern for traders and investors. It has been tepid at best and is causing downside pressure in most sectors and markets. Growth is what helps keep stock prices elevated and there is plenty of evidence that growth is weak.

  3. Back to the Precipice

    It is getting to be a familiar place, that precipice. How many times will the S&P 500 walk up to it and turn back?

    The weekly chart of the S&P 500 shows that the 1880 area seems to be some key support. It's been tested 6 times since last summer and has turned back up each time. Momentum is negative, but it's trying to turn back up. RSI is stair-stepping lower. Volume has been high since the beginning of the year.
