    Stocks opened higher on Friday but faded from the early highs and closed near the day's lows. The indices ended the day with mixed results as the Dow lost 57-points and the S&P 500 was down slightly, while the Nasdaq, small caps, and the Transports each closed with modest gains.

  2. Pay No Attention to that Man Behind the Curtain

    Since 2008, there have been numerous policy manipulations to stimulate growth in the economy since 2008. One of them is Quantitative Easing (QE), which came in several phases through the years. Another policy maneuver was the Zero Interest Rate Policy (ZIRP). ZIRP is a method of stimulating growth while keeping interest rates at or close to zero. QE and ZIRP were both expected to help stimulate the economy, but regardless of what the media may tell us, they have been ineffective.

  3. TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

    Stocks were up at Monday's open but were unable to produce any further upside intraday. The gap produced was filled Tuesday wiping out most of the gains from Monday. Stocks opened down Wednesday but, with the help of crude oil, closed well off the lows to produce slight gains on the day. The postive action carried on into Thursday putting stocks at the high for the week but was followed by some modest losses Friday although stocks did not fall far from their weekly high.

    Sometimes it's better to be good at one thing, then to suck at everything else.   5. Follow the bouncing oil

    Stocks chopped around in early trading Thursday, alternating between small losses and gains but by the afternoon they were on their way. The Dow gained 212-points after yet another oil news related headline hit the wire so investors had their catalyst, and they went with it.
