"A lot of people visit the White House, up to 100,000 each month, with many of those folks coming to tour the buildings," White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement. "Given this large amount of data, the records we are publishing today include a few 'false positives' – names that make you think of a well-known person, but are actually someone else."
"In September, requests were submitted for the names of some famous or controversial figures (for example Michael Jordan, William Ayers, Michael Moore, Jeremiah Wright, Robert Kelly ("R. Kelly"), and Malik Shabazz)," he continued. "The well-known individuals with those names never actually came to the White House. Nevertheless, we were asked for those names and so we have included records for those individuals who were here and share the same names."
Among the names on the list that appear to not be "false positives" are Bill Gates and George Clooney.
The White House told CBS News that it has social security number records that show that the Ayers who visited and the controversial William Ayers whose connections to Mr. Obama were brought up several times (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/06/eveningnews/realitycheck/main4504555.shtml) during the campaign last year are not one in the same. And it's perfectly fine for anyone to visit the White House. It's paid for by the taxpayers of our country. Why even make it an issue?

just because a plausible explanation is difficult to disprove doesn't make it true.
say a person spends a lot of time cruising crack alley and draws the attention of the local authorities, how unfair is that? "i was just visiting a friend, officer. besides, these streets are paid for by tax payer dollars. why even make it an issue?"
confuscious say: if you spend your time hanging around crap, don't be surprised when people find you smell like sh*t.
So, just to get this straight: If someone signed his name as Osama bin Laden in the White House guest book, then you'd say that Osama bin Laden visited the White House? Is that correct? With 100,000 visitors a year going through the line, I'm sure that that has happened.

no, if someone signed his name as Osama bin Laden in the White House guest book, i would question the qualifications and judgement of the individual responsible for the managing the reception list, and believe it or not, crap can roll uphill.
One would think with all the funds being expended up there, someone could do a better job of accounting for what is going on.
But you're right, with 100,000 (i can't prove that number but it sounds plausible) visitors coming through the line, there's bound to be some that fall through the crack, so to speak. The Clinton and Kennedy administrations bring to mind a couple of the more titillating examples.

he said TITILLATING
Wow. I went and visited the White House a few years ago. Strangely, no one was there to greet me and witness my signature. Of course, there were several hundred of us going in every few hours.

forgive me if i am a little confused, perhaps we are talking about different guest books?
White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said ... The White House told CBS News that it has social security number records...
with all due respect, i doubt you are silly enough to put your ssn on a list, especially a public one were "there were several hundred of us going in every few hours" and "no one was there to greet" you.
enjoy your vacation? got any pictures?
wanna buy some?
I went over 15 years ago. Security wasn't the issue that it is now.
Do you want to sign up?

You don't get in now unless you request even a tourist tour, by going through your member of Congress, at least 30 days before your visit, and six months in advance if you want to make sure you are allowed in. They background check EVERY visitor now- and you must provide your SSN at the time of reservation request. There is a form.
You haven't been to D.C. in a while, have you?
Things have changed. No "tourist walk-ins" since 9-11.
Nope. The last President when I went was Clinton. Other than that, I haven't been inside D.C. for about 8 years. And I've never personally met a U.S. President. Just when they were ex-presidents. I hope that some day the White House will be as open as it was when I went.

Front door? ...who cares about the front door !! Inquiring Minds want to know who is being sneaked in through the back ..! ...the door, the window, the cellar entrance - Now those are the places to get a copy from the video cameras !!!
It really doesn't matter, does it? As the President, he can choose whom he wants to meet. All different types of people meet with the President, including foreign leaders. It's his time, and he's the President.

That would be funny if that had happened! :D
I wonder how many times Donald M. Duck visited the White House? McDuck, how many times have you visited?
In most guest books, no one checks to see what names are signed. I imagine many people have put in fake names just to see what would happen......not that I would.
