I think he's done some great movies, including Bowling for Columbine and Sicko. This one should be equally as interesting. I know a lot of people don't like him, though I also know that most of those people have actually never watched his movies.

All I can say is WOW! What a movie.

I went to the show tonight.

I don't care whether you like his movies, or dislike his movies- you have GOT to see this one!!!!

I'm coming up with a short business plan. Here's how it works: Let's all get together, create a corporate entity registered in the US. Henceforth, we'll privatize all of our profits from this entity and split the proceeds. Any losses that we have during our operations, we'll just hand over to the taxpayers.

Sound good?

I would encourage every member of this board to go see the movie-

I laughed, and I cried, and I thought the movie told a story that every citizen in this nation need to hear.

Whether you like him or hate him, this is a movie WORTH WATCHING.

Where does the money go? Watch and find out.

What happened to America? Watch and find out.

What can you do about it? Watch and find out.

But you have to go see the movie to understand.

I give it a thumbs up- and I think you might too- even if you are not a Moore fan, I think you will enjoy this one.

In 2008, as Hurricane Gustav approached the Gulf Coast as a Category 3/4 hurricane, Moore told MSNBC host Keith Olbermann on August 29, 2008 that the hurricane is "proof that there is a God in heaven," since it would be hitting land on the same day as the start of the Republican National Convention.

McDuck, McDuck, McDuck

Don't you know? Michael Moore never made a cent off his films. It was all a vast right wing conspiracy!

He lives in a hovel in Traverse City MI. He drives a humble Chrysler.

He gave up his million dollar apartment in Manhattan last year.

Esquire magazine's party for the premier of "Capitalism" was actually their annual "Ultimate Bachelor Pad" party.

Michael Moore is just a poor person who happens to make movies.

His size is a glandular problem that national health care will fix. It has nothing to do with super sizing.

His appearance of hypocrisy is because we are not on board with the new order and soon National Health Care will fix that by giving us the correct pharmaceuticals. Then we will see the truth. Perhaps some indoctrination training will help us to behave and become productive members of the proletariat.

His films are thought provoking and funny on some level but I fear that many members of our society believe everything said in his films is the truth.

Be of good cheer McDuck, have hope for change.
I just ran out of the free Kool-Aid, gotta call that number and I hope the next batch is lime (sick of cherry).

Thanks for the plug on Michael Moore's film. I'm looking forward to watching it. He reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut. Little bitter pills with sugar coating. His humorous view of our American society is priceless. He is a national treasure. As far as earning money, I think his films have done very well overseas, and it's one of the American products that many people living abroad are willing to buy.

Overall, he's a plus for our economy, I would say. He's not asking for any government assistance, as far as I can tell, nor any taxpayer funded contract. That's a good guy in my book. Whether we like him or dislike him, his films are great.

It seems that the vast majority of people who attack him have never actually seen any of his movies. That's still valid. He also didn't wrap himself in the US flag after 9/11 like so many other Americans did. That's a plus in my book.

Unlike many of the rest of us, he's not a consumer of taxes in the US. In fact, I don't believe he receives any money from our government. Instead, his films bring in money from overseas.

It sounds to me that, unlike many of us, he's an actual capitalist, producing and not consuming.

His movies are art, he employs many people in our economy, and he actually helps the United States get some of our money back from abroad.

Overall, he sounds like a winner to me. The ultimate patriot in these down times, putting Americans back to work.....without taxpayer resources.

No wonder he's a target for the right.

So he doesn't wrap himself in the U.S. flag after a cowardly attack of Innocent people in our Country, that makes him more patriotic and better than the rest of us that did?

The bold parts sounds a lot like Haliburton except having a actual skill to offer the world is better that artistic bullshit in my book. :D

You're on quite a roll lately. First you admire the commie healthcare in Cuba, now you're openly dismissive of those that happen to love this country. Call me silly, but I was proud of the way our country acted following 9/11. But then again, for a lot us, we didn't need a 9/11 to feel proud of our country. Some of us hold on to this old-fashioned notion that our republic just happens to be the greatest expirement in the history of man, and that our country has undoubtedly brought more good to the world than any other. I know - it's hard for some folks to fathom that others think this way. Call me crazy, but I love this country.

I'd suggest you reread my post in a related thread where I mentioned "useful idiots." You seem to have missed the point I was making.

I see that as part of the problem. Too many people "don't need to see it". In my book, I think people gain a lot more by listening to other voices, and then deciding for themselves what adds value to the discussion.

Show-me, I have seen the movie, and I think it makes you think about things. To me, it's one of those things that I think EVERY AMERICAN needs to see, to stimulate thinking about what we have become in our nation.

Capitalism. Democracy. Hmmm...... two different things entirely. But a lot of Americans have been convinced they are one in the same.

I'm one of those who will see, taste, touch a lot of different things- and then make up my own mind as to what adds value to America, and what detracts.

To me, this movie adds a great deal of value to the discussion of what are we as Americans. I hope others take the opportunity to watch the movie, and think about things as well.

James,

Love your opinion but we are different sides of the same coin. We love our Country and the people but disagree on what is best.

Ah, is it entertainment or fact or selected sound bites.

At best I'll wait until it is free.

I know what we have become too much of, indifferent or lazy to make Congress accountable for their actions. The Royal families make it their business to cover their butts.

Capitalism, Democracy, and the Republic are all three different. When the people spoke out against TARP the Congress told us we don't know what is good for us. Capitalism works, Congress just did not let it because they knew the blame was squarely on Congresses back.

That's what it's all about. Back the truck up to the U.S. Treasury, and empty it out for the few who are taking this opportunity to take it all. Royal families are indeed the problem.

Putin is not alone in shaking down the entire world for all they got.

Truthfully, I just don't like him or what he has to say, and yes I have seen his Anti American movies. He's a creep and and needs to quit sucking all of this money off of the people of the USA when we are down and get back down in his Rat Hole and SHUT UP! NO I'm NOT a liberal, No I'm not going to discuss my opinion, No you can't change my mind, No he isn't a Patriot, Yes I think it would be best if he moved to Cuba or Venezuela where he would feel more at home. You have all the rights in the world to have your opinion and so do I, but I won't be on this board every 15 minutes trying to convince you that you're wrong just because I disagree with you. :suspicious:
WOW! what a relief, I feel much better now, thanks!

I think instead of speaking about the movie and about the causes of the financial meltdown (and possible solutions), let's just wrap ourselves in our flag and denounce anyone who brings it up as unpatriotic. We can do the same for the healthcare issue.

We seem to be going the same route as the former Soviet Union here. That is most unfortunate.

Interesting thoughts this morning from Michael Moore.

Is capitalism --the way it is done on Wall Street today-- a sin?

What would Jesus do?

Would he be a short seller?

What would Jesus think of derivatives? Of "Credit Default Swaps? Of usuray interest rates?

Would he approve of a system that has allowed the richest 1% to have more financial wealth than the 95% under them combined?

Pretty deep thoughts to ponder. What would Jesus say?

For Those of You on Your Way to Church This Morning ...a note from Michael Moore (http://michaelmoore.com/words/mikes-letter/those-you-your-way-church-morning-note-michael-moore)

Friends,

I'd like to have a word with those of you who call yourselves Christians (Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Bill Maherists, etc. can read along, too, as much of what I have to say, I'm sure, can be applied to your own spiritual/ethical values).

In my new film I speak for the first time in one of my movies about my own spiritual beliefs. I have always believed that one's religious leanings are deeply personal and should be kept private. After all, we've heard enough yammerin' in the past three decades about how one should "behave," and I have to say I'm pretty burned out on pieties and platitudes considering we are a violent nation who invades other countries and punishes our own for having the audacity to fall on hard times.

I'm also against any proselytizing; I certainly don't want you to join anything I belong to. Also, as a Catholic, I have much to say about the Church as an institution, but I'll leave that for another day (or movie).

Amidst all the Wall Street bad guys and corrupt members of Congress exposed in "Capitalism: A Love Story," I pose a simple question in the movie: "Is capitalism a sin?" I go on to ask, "Would Jesus be a capitalist?"

Would he belong to a hedge fund? Would he sell short? Would he approve of a system that has allowed the richest 1% to have more financial wealth than the 95% under them combined?

I have come to believe that there is no getting around the fact that capitalism is opposite everything that Jesus (and Moses and Mohammed and Buddha) taught. All the great religions are clear about one thing: It is evil to take the majority of the pie and leave what's left for everyone to fight over. Jesus said that the rich man would have a very hard time getting into heaven. He told us that we had to be our brother's and sister's keepers and that the riches that did exist were to be divided fairly. He said that if you failed to house the homeless and feed the hungry, you'd have a hard time finding the pin code to the pearly gates.

I guess that's bad news for us Americans. Here's how we define "Blessed Are the Poor": We now have the highest unemployment rate since 1983. There's a foreclosure filing once every 7.5 seconds. 14,000 people every day lose their health insurance.

At the same time, Wall Street bankers ("Blessed Are the Wealthy"?) are amassing more and more loot -- and they do their best to pay little or no income tax (last year Goldman Sachs' tax rate was a mere 1%!). Would Jesus approve of this? If not, why do we let such an evil system continue?

It doesn't seem you can call yourself a Capitalist AND a Christian --
because you cannot love your money AND love your neighbor when you are denying your neighbor the ability to see a doctor just so you can have a better bottom line. That's called "immoral" -- and you are committing a sin when you benefit at the expense of others.

When you are in church this morning, please think about this. I am asking you to allow your "better angels" to come forward. And if you are among the millions of Americans who are struggling to make it from week to week, please know that I promise to do what I can to stop this evil -- and I hope you'll join me in not giving up until everyone has a seat at the table.

Thanks for listening. I'm off to Mass in a few hours. I'll be sure to ask the priest if he thinks J.C. deals in derivatives or credit default swaps. I mean, after all, he must've been good at math. How else did he divide up two loaves of bread and five pieces of fish equally amongst 5,000 people?

Either he was the first socialist or his disciples were really bad at packing lunch. Or both.

Yours,
Michael Moore

I'm not sure that GB was a target for most people. It seems some Americans chose to live in Canada, or marry Canadians for the healthcare benefits across the border.

As far as immigration goes, some Americans chose to relocate to New Zealand, as I remember, about 4-7 years ago because of political concerns.

Prior to that, some Americans chose Canada or the Scandinavian countries.....again for political reasons.

During the Clinton years there were also a few people who tried to leave for tax purposes, then they realized that their countries of choice had much much higher tax rates than the US. They were let back in.

'Nether a borrower nor a lender be'. Capitalism would not exist with out this; this misconception of buying low and selling high for institutions and corporations, the real backbone of capitalism is: borrowing low and lending (investing, selling) high. Christ was a communist. Everyone contributes equally to the functioning of the community or commune.

The primary scriptural basis for the universal patristic denunciation of lending money at interest comes from four sources,

1.“Ex. 22:25 ¶ If you lend money to my people, to the poor among you, you shall not deal with them as a creditor; you shall not exact interest from them.”
2.“Deut. 23:19 ¶ You shall not charge interest on loans to another Israelite, interest on money, interest on provisions, interest on anything that is lent.”
3.“Psa. 15:1, 5 O LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill? … (those) who do not lend money at interest, and do not take a bribe against the innocent.”
4.“Luke 6:34 If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again.”

Leviticus 25:36 Do not take usurious interest from him, but revere your God, that your countryman may live with you.

Proverbs 28:8 He who increases his wealth by interest and usury Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.

It used to be Christan teaching that those who charge interest on money lending were guilty of sin.

I wonder what happened to that teaching.
