As I have been talking about for several days now, I will make an interfund transfer before today's noon ET deadline. This will be effective Tuesday 12/7.
My new allocation (interfund transfer) will be 35% G, 25% C, 20% S, and 20% I fund. For details on the transfer, please go to the market comments (http://www.tsptalk.com/comments.html).
I don't know if I agree with the C allocation - that fund has lagged behind the others all year.

True. But it lagged big time in 2003 but had a strong December. It's more of a defensive play as it might notget hurt too bad if we get a pullback.

Thanks to the December graph that was posted, I pulled back to 75% G, 5% C, 10% in S & I funds as of Friday 3 Dec.....My TSP account has increased$8000.00 since 20 Oct. 04. I am protecting that for now...But, I am planning a heavy jump back into the C, S and I funds on Monday Dec 13...I am making these moves according to theDecember graph. Mid December we may see another dramatic increase...Many thanks to Tom atTSP talk for the dramatic increase in my TSP account, and to the Dec graph for "advising" me to protect it for a while.....

Got that right. That's why I moved into it.

I also appreciate the december graph, and the comments and input of the other members. I plan to get back into more of the c and s funds around the 13th, even though I'm not sure what Greenspan will do & say. I'vereadthere's a chance he'll raise the interest rates then, but it seems thatDecember wouldn't be a good time to do that. The reason I tend to shy away from the I fund is that during the last week, the dollar has reached it's lowest point so far (against the euro), and I have no way of figuring out if it can or will go much lower. Thanks for your website. I wish I'd have known about it earlier. I think it would have helped me with some of my TSP allocation decisions.
It can go lower. In fact, it's down quite a bit already today (1 euro = $1.3462).
European markets are climbing, Hong Kong and Japan were down a bit.

Welcome wabbit! Did you see mlk's post about interest rates not being rates in December since 1988? Interesting, I thought.
About those seasonality charts. Don't get too attached to them. They can burn you. I like to use them when all things are equal and I need a tiebreaker. Like now I am thinking the market is due for a pullback and the chart more or less confirms that the time may be right. Many times it is wrong. (Like in July )
Thanks for joining us!
Tom
I think I'll just stay put and not bother trying to get cute here.
... then I saw the green arrows materializing and decided to move 1/3 of my S allocation into G (hopefully this will be aprofitable move). :P

Gents,
Thanks to all of you, I just did my ever first interfund transfer. I didn't touch my wife's because I am still testing the water. As I get better, i'll be playing with hers as well. Again, thanks for the lasting education...:^

Stingray what is it that your doing I could use returns like this. Please e-mail me and let me know how you plan to go for the coming weeks. Thanks:^

Well, it really boils down to what his account balance is. He may have a balance of $250,000- hence an$8,000 gain in 2 months juston nominal returns.
I'm not saying he didn't make any good moves. I'm just saying that you have to take a person's account balance into consideration.
God Bless:^

You are absolutely correct in your assessment. How about $17.4kforNov w/o contributions. Just patience guys and study the market. Let it be your friend and make it fun. And remember, it is not fun when your on the wrong side and it goes down.

I have no secrets Leon. :) I spill my guts every night / morning.
Tom,
Great move! 100% G would of been awesome. Anything out of the market right now is a great move. Now is a good time to buy so the 15th pay day for you guys should to into the stock funds.
:P
I may roll my TSP into a IRA so I will not be on this board starting next year. I would want to have 100% of my holdings in my hedge fund.
My interview is on/around the 14th of January. My personal account has grown 350% this year so I should have a pretty good chance.
Have a great day!

Is that all it takes? How much they paying? If you don't mind me asking.........
M
2% of 75% of 590M.
Could make up to 5% of the total portfolio value if I exceed the return of the S&P 500 by 10%. The reason I like this job is I will not be out there trying to sale the fund and be 100% concentrated on investing...so I could go down in flames very fast :P. But I would not have it any other way.
It is easier for me to short the market. I hate playing the long side and being in mutual funds...I feel like a trapped rat on a sinking ship because you are locked in for the pain like today :X.
0549 here got to get ready for another day at the salt mines.
God bless.

Does that mean to completely pull all money out of I Fun and reallocate as such?
deje Welcome! The I fund was unprofitable last week. In the past period or so it's been pretty good because the $ has been falling. The fund has a twofold risk of euro market + USdollar. Today the I fund popped up .18, my opinion, the I fund carries the biggest risk. Anyway stay tuned to this site. Check out what some of the members have written about the I fund. There are whole topics of research about all the funds. Again Welcome.
