Hillary is right........

Recently, as well as before, McCarthyism was the way to attack anyone who disagreed with the establishment....and it still persists to this very day.
Americans are Americans.....

Teachers chastising children on whom their parents support is and should be out of bounds.....these are children.
However, it happens, and will continue to happen, and that is no excuse. I'm sure it works both ways, and neither is right.

Georgia congressman warns of Obama dictatorship

By BEN EVANS – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy."

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force.

Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

Obama's transition office did not respond immediately to Broun's remarks.

The similarities between obama’s proposed civilian military force to take some of the national security burden off the military and it being just as powerful, and strong, and as well-funded as our military, should have honest Americans asking why this and why now? This sounds like the Hitler youth group and is are eerily similar to it’s formation. Ya’ll really need to read what went on in Germany during the 30’s.

You can blow it off all you want, but with all the problems we face, what reason can you give for the creation ($$$) of a national security force to take the burden off the military. We have more problems than the creation of another armed security force. I don’t believe the military can operate in the US, except during disasters. Why armed? And this has been mentioned several times, just google it.

This will really be a source of friction between the populace and this force answering to obama. And since obama is going to pull out of Iraq, the National Guard will be back, unless he keeps them in Iraq and out of the way.

The slow slide down the slippery slope. The creation/need of this force has never been adequately explained by obama and he has been given a free ride on the media about this. If this had been the evil Bush proposing this, do you really, honestly think it would be glossed over so smoothly? And this has nothing to do with politics, but the future of this country and the need for another military armed type force.

People in this country have complained enough about our military as it is and they are willing to accept another military version 2.0?

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
—Romans 13:1

Loving Lord God, in Your grace and goodness, You have given us the gift of free will and have mingled it with Your sovereign will and authority. We thank You today for this powerful gift. We open our hearts to trust completely in You—to look to You in every part of our national life, accepting Your will as wise and good.

As we pray for our newly elected President, we ask for grace to see Your hand at work. May we willingly acknowledge that You are the one who establishes all authority, and that those who are lifted up to serve do so at Your good pleasure. We ask You to unite us in that understanding, Lord, that our nation may move forward in Your will. In Your holy name, Amen.

That's the daily prayer for yesterday, on the 77 days till inauguration of the Presidential Prayer Team.

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
—Romans 13:1

That brings to mind Scripture advocating disobeying the governing authority. In other words, just when is it alright not to submit to the governing authority?

While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees. These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead. They arrested them. The next day the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law met in Jerusalem. They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.

The members of the council ordered Peter and John out of the council chamber and conferred among themselves.

“What should we do with these men?” they asked each other. “We can’t deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it. But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.”

So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.

But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”

Acts 4:1-21

Here's another classic example from Scripture,

Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. "Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of this new life."

At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles.

Then someone came and said, "Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people." At that, the captain went with his officers and brought the apostles.

Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said.

[U]Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!

They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they again ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Acts 5:17-41

Now for my story...

There was a time that I brought my Bible to work to read during my breaks.
This would grab the curious attention of some, and they in turn would ask open/honest questions about my faith. Now mind you, I would only speak when someone approached me with their questions. I would never push my faith upon anyone. Some of these discussions led to the conversion of a few. This offended others, and soon I was questioned by my superiors and ordered not to speak openly about my faith at work.

I simply stated to them that I could not and will not obey their orders, but will make a compromise. They asked what that compromise would be.

I said that I would stop talking about my faith, if everyone in the shop stopped talking about their's. They still did not get it. So I explained, "If everyone in the shop stopped cursing, then I would stop blessing."

They were not prepared to command the shop to stop cursing. Therefore they were not prepared to command me to stop blessing, because they knew neither the shop or I would have obeyed!

So, the cursing and blessing continued... hand-in-hand until I eventually PCS'd.;)

I caught the following play on Masterpiece Theater from browsing channels the other night, missed the very beginning but caught majority. If you ever have another chance to see this, it is more than worth your time. As powerful as Schindlers List, if not more so. [side note, the night I saw Schindlers List, the theater was packed with high schoolers-probably class social studies assignment. The crowd was silent throughout the film, spellbound, and remained stunned silent as they filed out of the theater afterwards. Highschoolers!]

I think this is equally as powerful and thought-provoking about God and our relationship individually and as God's people, aka "body of believers", with God, however you may define "body of believers".

PBS presents ‘God on Trial’ in Auschwitz

http://www.jewishjournal.com/images/articles/art_godontrial1_110708.jpg

The prosecutor reads the charges against God: murder, collaboration with the enemy, breach of contract with His chosen people.

Setting: A barrack in Auschwitz, with some 20 Jewish prisoners, half of whom will be gassed in the morning.

Time: evening, sometime during the Holocaust.

So opens "God on Trial," an intellectual and emotional masterpiece, airing on PBS stations on Sunday evening, Nov. 9, the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht.

A half-Jew, once a respected judge in Germany, presides over the trial. A young prisoner is the prosecutor, while his father speaks for the defense. A rabbi, who has committed the entire Torah to memory, cites chapter and verse. Other inmates break in occasionally, drawing on their own experiences to accuse or defend the Almighty.

In his opening statement, the prosecutor recites the history of Jewish persecution, from Babylon to the Romans to Czarist Russia, to show that God has habitually broken his covenant with the children of Israel.

No, counters the defense, it is the Jews who are the contract breakers, because they forgot the Torah.

Prosecutor: Why did God disperse the Jews?

Defense: To spread knowledge of His word throughout the world.

The defense argues that God, like a surgeon, must occasionally remove the gangrene to purify the body and usher in the golden age.

Examples [of explanations/opinions of why they are being targeted for destruction] only hint as the depth and conviction of the give-and-take, which make our customary debates about the existence and belief in God sound like high-school exercises.

It would be wrong to give away the final verdict, or the heart-stopping closing scene, but suffice that both atheists and believers will find some satisfaction and solace.

Redhead went one step further, proposing that the drama is not about the existence of God [or even the Holocaust alone], "but more about the nature of faith, how we conduct ourselves in the face of savagery, how we try to find solid ground in a bottomless swamp."

He added, "We are asking about the meaning of life, because if the Holocaust had no meaning, then nothing has any meaning."

Manning achieved some controversy in the 2008 presidential election (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2008) after ATLAH posted several sermons of his that were harshly critical of Democratic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_%28United_States%29) candidate Barack Obama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama) on the website YouTube (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube).[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_David_Manning#cite_note-7) Among other accusations, he called Obama a "good house negro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_tom#Other_terms_with_similar_meanings)" in one sermon[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_David_Manning#cite_note-8) while in another he referred to Obama as "trash" due to his mixed race (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_race) heritage and accused him of being a "pimp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pimp)" and "long-legged macdaddy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_Daddy_%28disambiguation%29)," citing the viral video (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_video) "I Got a Crush... on Obama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Got_a_Crush..._on_Obama)".[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_David_Manning#cite_note-9) In another video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4-TZspqlOs&NR=1), he calls Obama's mother "trash" for becoming pregnant out of wedlock. Manning defended his sermons in an interview on Fox News (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_News), saying that "we also have to talk about his character."[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_David_Manning#cite_note-10)

He went on to proclaim Oprah Winfrey as The AntiChrist. In his sermon he said "Run children run. The Antichrist has come. Its Oprah Winfrey. Run and tell everyone around you".

He further stated that God told him that Hillary Clinton would win the Democractic Primary and that Obama would not become the President. Manning illustrated how God showed him Hillary would win by revealing her card in the light. After his prophecies didn't become true, he defended them by saying that it is what God said to him and he will continue to follow in his faith.and

Manning holds a Doctor of Philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phd) degree from his own ATLAH Theological Seminary, an unaccredited educational institution.

Bush's Midnight Regulations

Peter Rothberg Peter Rothberg
Wed Dec 17, 12:41 pm ET

The Nation (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=10qa2akrp;_ylt=App3VADzQhDK2azJGg5XmXU__8QF/*http://www.thenation.com) -- President Bush may have hospitably welcomed his successor and his wife into the White House while promising a "transition of the highest order," but despite voters' overwhelming rejection of Republican ideology, his administration has been using its waning days in power to codify a host of harmful new pro-industry, anti-environmental rules and regulations.

As R. Jeffrey Smith and Juliet Eilperin wrote recently (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=12mqhf693;_ylt=AiRQxdx.QrBgapFSgfkXEOw__8QF/*http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/29/AR2008112901914.html) in the Washington Post, "In a burst of activity meant to leave a lasting stamp on the federal government, the Bush White House in the past month has approved 61 new regulations on environmental, security, social and commercial matters that by its own estimate will have an economic impact exceeding $1.9 billion annually."

These so-called "midnight regulations" are free of Congressional oversight and will be completely legal once Bush signs off on them. They'll allow factories to pollute more, let food manufacturers hide their toxins more easily, gives states the chance to restrict women's access to abortion services and force municipalities to cut off aid to needy families in the middle of a recession.

On the environmental front, the latest rules show that the Bush administration is trying to lend a final assist to its crony industries that could be affected by looming pollution controls or wilderness-protection laws. A rule approved by the White House three days after the presidential election, for example, eased constraints on environmentally damaging oil shale development (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=115qpm62d;_ylt=Arp2kBho5g8u.iMUZJ5JM9Q__8QF/*http://www.backpacker.com/blogs/573) throughout the West, despite objections from Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter and a majority of the state's congressional delegation.

The Bush White House's perfidy is amusingly called out in the latest video (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=11c0n15j2;_ylt=AgcyWtPEtOONoaYzBTMs760__8QF/*http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B4y5sZKdI4) from the good folks at Brave New Films (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=10r06rlvd;_ylt=AmKpPflAz4wjlWNEnymB018__8QF/*http://bravenewfilms.org/). Their devastating spin on the holiday favorite 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, highlights the administration's final, desperate power grab with piercing humor and unassailable facts. Playing the critical role of New Media Town Crier, BNF is refusing to allow the Bush Administration to stealthily sneak out the backdoor with what's left of the family jewels.

While President-elect Obama has vowed to roll back his predecessor's abuses, many regulatory and legal observers say that it won't be so easy given the veritable tidal wave of new rules on multiple fronts (close to 90 (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/dailynews/thenation/cm_thenation/storytext/4390573/30284309/SIG=12mufq7hf;_ylt=AqhttJFV3MDbigfWg8HApUQ__8QF/*http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/30/AR2008103004749.html), according to the Post), and the long, arduous regulatory requirements for repealing each rule.

A Letter to Obama

From: Cory Miller
(Corey Miller runs a well drilling service in east Texas and issued an open letter to Sen. Obama:)

Mr. Obama,

Given the uproar about the simple question asked you by Joe the plumber, and the persecution that has been heaped on him because he dared to question you, I find myself motivated to say a few things to you myself. While Joe aspires to start a business someday, I already have started not one, but 4 businesses. But first, let me introduce myself. You can call me "Cory the well driller". I am a 54-year-old high school graduate. I didn't go to college like you, I was too ready to go "conquer the world" when I finished high school. 25 years ago at age 29, I started my own water well drilling business at a time when the economy here in East Texas was in a tailspin from the crash of the early 80's oil boom. I didn't get any help from the government, nor did I look for any. I borrowed what I could from my sister, my uncle, and even the pawnshop and managed to scrape together a homemade drill rig and a few tools to do my first job. My businesses did not start not a result of privilege. It is the result of my personal drive, personal ambition, self-discipline, self reliance, and a determination to treat my customers fairly. From the very start my business provided one other (than myself) East Texan a full time job. I couldn't afford a backhoe the first few years (something every well drilling business had), so I and my helper had to dig the mud pits that are necessary for each and every job with hand shovels. I had to use my 10-year-old, ½-ton pickup truck for my water tank truck (normally a job for at least a 2 ton truck).

>>a large portion of this letter was omitted, due to text character count limits-Read the entire letter at: http://www.cmillerdrilling.com/files/cory_the_well_driller.pdf (http://www.cmillerdrilling.com/files/cory_the_well_driller.pdf)

Now, we have been manufacturing the mud pumps for 7 years, my combined businesses employ 32 full time employees, and distribute $5,000,000.00 annually through the local economy. Now, just 4 months ago I borrowed $1,254,000.00, purchasing computer controlled machining equipment to start my 4th business, a production machine shop. The machine shop will serve the mud pump company so that we can better manufacture our pumps that are being shipped worldwide. Of course, the machine shop will also do work for outside companies as well. This has already produced 2 more full time jobs, and 2 more should develop out of it in the next few months. This should work out, but if it doesn't it will be because you, and the other professional politicians like yourself, will have destroyed our country's' (and the world) economy with your meddling with mortgage loan programs through your liberal manipulation and intimidation of loaning institutions to make sure that unqualified borrowers could get mortgages. You see, at the very time when I couldn't get a business loan to get my mud pumps into production, you were working with Acorn and the Community Reinvestment Act programs to make sure that unqualified borrowers could buy homes with no down payment, and even no credit or worse yet, bad credit. Even the infamous, liberal, Ninja loans (No Income, No Job or Assets). While these unqualified borrowers were enjoying unrealistically low interest rates, I was paying 22% to 24% interest on the credit cards that I had used to provide me the funds for the mud pump business that has created jobs for more East Texans. It's funny, because after 25 years of turning almost every dime of extra money back into my businesses to grow them, it has been only in the last two years that I have finally made enough money to be able to put a little away for retirement, and now the value of that has dropped 40% because of the policies you and your ilk have perpetrated on our country.

You see, Mr. Obama, I'm the guy you intend to raise taxes on. I'm the guy who has spent 25 years toiling and sweating, fretting and fighting, stressing and risking, to build a business and get ahead. I'm the guy who has been on the very edge of bankruptcy more than a dozen times over the last 25 years, and all the while creating more and more jobs for East Texans who didn't want to take a risk, and wouldn't demand from themselves what I have demanded from myself. I'm the guy you characterize as "the Americans who can afford it the most" that you believe should be taxed more to provide income redistribution "to spread the wealth" to those who have never toiled, sweated, fretted, fought, stressed, or risked anything. You want to characterize me as someone who has enjoyed a life of privilege and who needs to pay a higher percentage of my income than those who have bought into your entitlement culture. I resent you, Mr. Obama, as I resent all who want to use class warfare as a tool to advance their political career. What's worse, each year more Americans buy into your liberal entitlement culture, and turn to the government for their hope of a better life instead of themselves. Liberals are succeeding through more than 40 years of collaborative effort between the predominant liberal media, and liberal indoctrination programs in the public school systems across our land.

What is so terribly sad about this is this. America was made great by people who embraced the one-time American culture of self-reliance, self-motivation, self-determination, self-discipline, personal betterment, and hard work, risk taking. A culture built around the concept that success was in reach on every able bodied American who would strive for it. Each year that less Americans embrace that culture, we all descend together. We descend down the socialist path that has brought country after country ultimately to bitter and unremarkable states. If you and your liberal comrades in the media and school systems would spend half as much effort cultivating a culture of can-do across America as you do cultivating your entitlement culture, we could see Americans at large embracing the conviction that they can elevate themselves through personal betterment, personal achievement, and self reliance. You see, when people embrace such ideals, they act on them. When people act on such ideals, they succeed. All of America could find herself elevating instead of deteriorating. But that would eliminate the need for liberal politicians, wouldn't it, Mr. Obama? The country would not need you if the country was convinced that problem solving was best left with individuals instead of the government. You and all your liberal comrades have got a vested interested in creating a dependent class in our country. It is the very business of liberals to create an ever-expanding dependence on government. What's remarkable is that you, who have never produced a job in your life, are going to tax me to take more of my money and give it to people who wouldn't need my money if they would get off their entitlement mentality asses and apply themselves at work, demand more from themselves, and quit looking to liberal politicians to raise their station in life.

You see, I know because I've had them work for me before. Hundreds of them over these 25 years. People who simply will not show up to work on time. People who just will not work 5 days in a week, much less, 6 days. People always looking for a way to put less effort out. People who actually tell me that they would do more if I just would first pay them more. People who take off work to sit in government offices to apply to get free government handouts (gee, I wonder how things would have turned out for them if they had spent that time earning money and pleasing their employer?). You see, all of this comes from your entitlement mentality culture.

Oh, I know you will say I am uncompassionate. Sorry, Mr. Obama, wrong again. You see, I've seen what the average percentage of your income has been given to charities over the years of 2000 to 2004 (ignoring the years you started running for office - can you pronounce "politically motivated"); you averaged of less than 1% annually. And your running mate, Joe Biden, averaged less than ¼% of his annual income in charitable contributions over the last 10 years. Like so many liberals, the two of you want to give to the needy, just as long as it is someone else's money you are giving to them. I won't say what I have given to charities over the last 25 years, but the percentage is several times more than you or Joe Biden (don't you just hate goggle?). Tell me again how you feel my pain.

In short, Mr. Obama, your political philosophies represent everything that is wrong with our country. You represent the culture of government dependence instead of self-reliance; Entitlement mentality instead of personal achievement; Penalization of the successful to reward the unmotivated; Political correctness instead of open mindedness and open debate. If you are successful, you may preside over the final transformation of America from being the greatest and most self-reliant culture on earth, to just another country of whiners and wimps, who sit around looking to the government to solve their problems. Like all of western Europe. All countries on the decline. All countries that, because of liberal socialistic mentalities, have a little less to offer mankind every year.

God help us…

Cory Miller
(just a ordinary, extraordinary American, the way a lot of Americans used to be.)

A Page From the Hoover Playbook
By Harold Meyerson
Wednesday, January 7, 2009; A15

As the nation navigates through the most perilous straits it has seen since the 1930s, policymakers are looking back to the '30s to see which of the paths that Depression-era America embarked upon actually led toward recovery. Well, some of our policymakers. Others, it seems, have seized upon the very policies that deepened the Depression and are repackaging them as solutions for our time.

In Monday's meeting between President-elect Barack Obama (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Barack+Obama?tid=informline) and congressional leaders, Senate Republican (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/U.S.+Republican+Party?tid=informline) leader Mitch McConnell (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Mitch+McConnell?tid=informline) suggested that instead of providing aid to the states to help them meet their Medicaid (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Medicaid?tid=informline) and education obligations, the federal government offer them loans. The idea is ridiculous on its face: With revenue drying up, states are already slashing services and reducing their workforces, which only deepens the downturn. The last thing they'd be inclined to do would be to take on more debt at the very moment they're struggling to balance their budgets.

But back to my original point: This idea was tried once before, in the depths of the Depression. In 1932, Congress appropriated $300 million to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to send to the states for unemployment relief. (Unemployment insurance did not exist until the Social Security Act of 1935 was passed). Unfortunately, Herbert Hoover (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/related/topic/Herbert+Hoover?tid=informline)'s RFC didn't offer the funds to the states as grants but as loans. Already all-but-insolvent, many states didn't take the offer. And the economy continued its plunge into the abyss.

This is Mitch McConnell's idea of a policy worth reviving.

Obama seeks to delay DTV Transition

Posted: Jan 8, 2009 01:44 PM CST
WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama is urging Congress to postpone the Feb. 17 switch from analog to digital television broadcasting.

In a letter to key lawmakers, transition team co-chair John Podesta warned Thursday that too many Americans who rely on analog TV sets to pick up over-the-air broadcasts won't be ready.

The incoming administration is pushing for a delay in part because the Commerce Department has run out of money for the coupons that subsidize digital TV converter boxes for consumers.

People who don't have cable or satellite TV or a new TV with a digital tuner will need the converter boxes to keep their analog TVs working.

Obama officials are also concerned that the government is not giving consumers enough help with the TV transition.

Subject: OUR REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS, TRUE STORY
[may be true, maybe not. I wasen't there]

Dumb as a box of Rocks

A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF REPRESENTATION WE HAVE IN CONGRESS, TRUE STORY:

A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.

'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?'

'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.'

'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi.

Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?''

Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'

They are voting today in Davidson County, Metro Nashville (the county I moved from last year). I hope this passes but the Mayor, the Governor and most of the politically-correct and liberal-minded folks are fighting it hard. Metro spends thousands of $$$'s a year on court appointed interpreters for the crooks who don't speak English, so they can get a fair trial. Same goes for the human services and welfare offices, etc.

One can only hope that it passes, I fear that we are going to get steamrolled by Socialism. And we wonder why we're going broke and infrastructure is failing. Everyone should be required to pay taxes, so then maybe they respect and appreciate what this country has to offer instead of having their hand out for freebies and entitlements and always whining and complaining about how bad America is.

9/11 Families Outraged by Obama Call to Suspend Guantanamo War Crimes Trials
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

"To me it's beyond comprehension that they would take the side of the terrorists," said Peter Gadiel, whose son, James, was killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11. "Many of these people have been released and been right back killing, right back at their terrorist work again."

"I see no reason why we should delay these proceedings. Let justice be served," said Jefferson Crowther, whose 24-year-old son, Welles, was killed in the Twin Towers after he saved the lives of several others.

"There is no need to suspend [the military tribunals]. There is no reason why [Obama] can't conduct a concurrent review at the same time that the military commission process is moving forward to render justice for the terrorists that have murdered thousands of people," said former Cmdr. Kirk Lippold, who lost 17 sailors during a suicide bombing attack on the USS Cole in 2000. A suspect in the case is being held at Guantanamo.

The Obama administration is calling for a systematic review of each detainee's case to determine who can be released and who cannot. "It is in the interests of the United States to review whether and how such individuals can and should be prosecuted," says the draft order released on Wednesday.

"The safest place to have these trials is Guantanamo Bay. If they were to move to the homeland it would endanger all of us," said Lorraine Arias Believeau of New Jersey, whose brother, Adam, was killed on 9/11.

"We should continue so we don't go backward, we go forward," Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks told the judge in their case. He is among five detainees accused in the attacks who have asked to be given the death penalty, believing they will become martyrs if they are executed.

Here's what you get when you don't finish the job.

Burns victim vows to be suicide bomber while Israelis ask: 'Was it all worth it?'

In Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Sabah Abu Halima, her body covered with burns from what are believed to be phosphorus shells, her husband and four of nine children dead, dreams of becoming a suicide bomber.

“I pray to Allah that I will have revenge, I pray and dream of killing myself among the Israelis,” she says. “I hope that on the last day of my life I kill as many of them as possible and make myself a martyr.”

Hamas has reached a certain standing on the world stage. It is receiving attention and praise for what it did from other Arab nations,” said one Hamas activist. Some Israeli analysts tend to agree. “We have not weakened Hamas. The vast majority of its combatants were not harmed and popular support for the organisation has in fact increased,” said Gideon Levy, a prominent commentator for the centre-left daily Haaretz. “Their war has intensified the ethos of resistance and determined endurance.”

Criticism is even more scathing from the Israeli Right. “The soldiers succeeded, but the politicians failed,” said Avigdor Lieberman of the nationalist Yisrael Beiteinu Party, which has seen its support grow since the conflict. “They didn’t let the army complete the operation. What was achieved here? Zip, nada.”

Eli Yishai, the Finance Minister and head of the ultra-Orthodox religious party Shas, said that Israel should have kept fighting until Hamas was destroyed. “Now Hamas will rebuild its infrastructure with Iranian money and then they will resume the smuggling and continue firing at Israel. We should have finished the job – pull out the ground forces and continue striking from the air.

“We should have hit thousands more houses and reached a point in which they don’t dare shoot at Israel ever again.”

Hamas is believed to have about 1,000 missiles in its arsenal and there is no shortage of fresh volunteers at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

“I want to be a resistance fighter to avenge what has been done to my family,” says Yousef, Sabah Abu Halima’s injured 16-year-old son. “Nobody can guarantee that I will live anyway. The bombs can come back any day. I want to fight and I hope that I can be a member of the armed resistance.”

Nashville Voters Reject English Amendment
Measure Defeated 41,752 To 32,144
UPDATED: 5:09 am CST January 23, 2009
The Election Commission described Thursday's overall turnout as light.
If the measure had passed, Nashville would have become the largest U.S. city to make English the mandatory language for all government business.

Thirty states, including Tennessee, and at least a dozen cities have declared English their official language, said K.C. McAlpin, executive director of Arlington, Va.-based ProEnglish, which donated money to support the referendum.

About 10 percent of Nashville's nearly 600,000 people speak a language other than English in their homes, according to census data. The city is 5 percent Hispanic and home to the nation's largest Kurdish community and refugees from Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
http://www.wsmv.com/englishamendment/index.html
They are voting today in Davidson County, Metro Nashville (the county I moved from last year). I hope this passes but the Mayor, the Governor and most of the politically-correct and liberal-minded folks are fighting it hard. Metro spends thousands of $$$'s a year on court appointed interpreters for the crooks who don't speak English, so they can get a fair trial. Same goes for the human services and welfare offices, etc. http://www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=9714196 (http://www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=9714196) http://www.wsmv.com/news/18489800/detail.html (http://www.wsmv.com/news/18489800/detail.html)

There was this correctional officer I knew that went to see his doctor because his penis had turned orange. His doctor was puzzled so he asked the officer what his habits were like. The officer said that every day after work he would stop on his way home at a 7-11 store to pick up a few beers and a bag of crunchy cheez doodles and a dirty movie....that certainly explains the problem.

Satirical analysis of an 'Obama-nation'

Is there a celebrity doctor in the house?
by-Ron Hart

The swearing-in of President Obama went a bit awkwardly with Chief Justice Roberts and Obama messing up the part about “faithfully executing the office” of president.

But in fairness, our last Democratic president had problems executing any word derived from “faithful.”

I did feel sorry that they fumbled the Oath of Office; perhaps they were distracted by Aretha Franklin’s hat, which caused the ceremony to start late because it took the Secret Service an hour to search it.

Tim Geithner’s confirmation as treasury secretary, whose job it is to collect taxes, must encourage Obama to feel that anything is possible with this Congress. Never mind that Geithner knowingly did not pay his taxes and had illegal domestic help. Peccadillos like those have knocked out 100 percent of past candidates for high office, but Geithner sailed through his confirmation hearing.

More troubling to me than Geithner lying about paying his taxes during the hearing was that he did not directly answer a single question asked of him by the senators. I am pretty sure if Obama had nominated Wesley Snipes he, too, would have been confirmed.

Continuing the Democrats’ celebrity-fest, Caroline “uhh, you know” Kennedy could not pass the New York governor’s sniff test last week. If only Obama had nominated her. Camelot’s torch has been passed to a new family, the Obamas.

Marital and tax problems were mentioned as the reasons Caroline could not fill Hillary’s pantsuit. This makes me wonder: just how bad is your marriage when it prevents you from replacing a Clinton?

So what is next? Apparently Obama wants TV celebrity heartthrob, tele-doctor Sanjay Gupta, to be surgeon general. Was Dr. Phil not available? Perhaps Oprah’s influence is waning if her choice, Dr. Phil, did not get the nod.

Next I would assume that Willie Nelson will be Drug Czar, Lou Dobbs would take charge of the INS and “24’s” Jack Bower could head up the FBI. Nancy Grace could head up the Justice Department, where she would only investigate mysterious murders of blonde girls. Greta Van Susteren could be her deputy assistant.

This should be fun. In this world of celebrity worship that ushered in the new president, anything is possible. Perhaps funding for a Paris Hilton think tank is on the horizon.

Even at his relatively young age of thirty-something, Dr. Sanjay Gupta actually does have some Washington experience. He worked with Hillary Clinton on health care in the 1990s. I am not sure what he actually did. My guess would be that Hillary had him confirm that those were just mosquito bites on Bill before their annual conjugal visit. And I am sure Dr. Gupta explained to Bill which Internet male enhancement ads were fake and which were real.

But that was technically Clinton White House experience, and this is the Clinton 2.0 Administration. The last surgeon general I remember was Bill Clinton’s friend from Arkansas, Dr. Joycelyn Elder, whom I think had to step down when she suggested that the cure for male puberty was for the boy to Joycel his own Elder.

All I know about the surgeon general is that he or she wears a military uniform for some reason. Maybe it has to do with the “general” part. And I am thinking Michael Jackson likes to wear military uniforms and he has had first-hand experience with most medical procedures. He has certainly seen what can go wrong. He is a celebrity, ethnically ambiguous, likes children and has a lot of time on his hands now. Moreover, in his never-ending quest for diversity, having Michael Jackson in his Cabinet means Obama could check the boxes of “white,” “black,” “woman,” “man” and “pedophile.”

If I were Obama, I would try nominating Michael Jackson just to test his limits with Congress so he knows how much rope he really has. He can always say he was just kidding and the press will belly laugh with him and call him “brilliant” for his playfulness.

All in all, this should be a fun confirmation season. Instead of C-span coverage, we can follow the action on “Entertainment Tonight.”

Associated Press - January 30, 2009 1:43 PM ET
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn is moving quickly to put his predecessor's scandal-ridden tenure behind him, saying he's ready to "fumigate state government."

Quinn said at a news conference Friday that he signed his first executive order, officially bringing the Illinois Reform Commission under the office of the governor.

Quinn created the commission when he was lieutenant governor in the wake of the arrest of Gov. Rod Blagojevich (blah-GOY'-uh-vich) on federal corruption charges. The state Senate ousted Blagojevich on Thursday for abuse of power.

Friday is Quinn's first full day in office. He pledges to work with lawmakers and other state officials as a team.

McCain: Obama Not Consulting GOP on Stimulus
Monday, February 2, 2009 9:03 AM
WASHINGTON -- Former presidential rival John McCain expressed disappointment on Friday that President Barack Obama has not negotiated with Republicans over a huge economic stimulus plan and said he is working on an alternative package.

Speaking to Reuters, Arizona Senator McCain said the alternative plan would include what he described as "more effective tax cuts, such as a payroll tax cut" and spending on projects aimed at immediately creating jobs.

"A group of us Republican senators are working on coming up with an alternative package that I would hope would have some elements to it that Americans would support," said McCain, who lost the November 4th election to Obama, a Democrat.

"One, we have to have an alternative and two, we still hope that the administration - although time is running out - that the administration will sit down and do some serious negotiating, which they have not done," he said.

An $819 billion stimulus plan passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives on Wednesday, with no votes from Republicans.

The Senate, also controlled by Democrats, begins debate next week on a bill that contains $342 billion in temporary tax breaks and more than $545 billion in spending to total about $887 billion.

McCain said it was helpful that the Democratic president visited Capitol Hill this week to talk to Republicans about the stimulus plan but that "some very rapid and dramatic outreach" is needed.

"I have to tell you I'm disappointed so far in the administration's lack of consultation or efforts to work with Republicans on the stimulus package," McCain said.

It is one thing to talk to Republicans, he said, but "it's entirely something else to bring them to the table and sit down and say, 'OK, how can we come up with a common outcome that we can agree on?' They haven't done that."

Obama would like some Senate Republicans to vote for the plan as a way of expressing bipartisan unity on the need for a massive stimulus package aimed at stopping the slide in the U.S. economy.

But Republicans complain that some of the spending items are more about furthering the Democrats' policy agenda than giving the economy a jump-start.

Obama said after his talks with the Republicans on Wednesday that he did not expect to get 100 percent agreement from them or even 50 percent, and that they had relayed a number of suggestions to him and he had described his own approach.

McCain said he is working with Republican colleagues Mel Martinez of Florida, John Thune of South Dakota, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Lindsay Graham of South Carolina and others on the alternative plan.

"Republicans are not reluctant to spend money or to appropriate money to try to get the country moving again economically. We just see this legislation as not achieving that goal," he said.

A payroll tax cut would be a way to immediately put extra cash into workers' pockets. But during earlier discussions about the idea, some senators questioned whether the cut would be significant enough to be beneficial.

New York Democratic Senator Charles Schumer told reporters that he believed the tax package in the stimulus was already at the top of what was acceptable, but that more spending on infrastructure projects would likely be welcome.

Schumer also predicted that Senate Democrats would get the 60 votes needed to clear procedural hurdles and approve the measure in the Senate, despite being far short of hopes by Obama to get wider support.

McCain, whom Obama has sought to woo as an ally in the Senate, also expressed concern about Obama's nominee to be deputy secretary of defense, former Raytheon Co lobbyist William Lynn. Critics have said Lynn's nomination seemed to violate Obama's ban on hiring lobbyists.

McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee that is considering Lynn's nomination, said Lynn so far has not told him what defense issues he would recuse himself from as a result of his Raytheon ties.

"I'm not trying to hold up or block his nomination but I do want to get some answers and then I'll be glad to move forward when we get the answers. But I do need the answers," he said.

The presidential election had heated up, and the children showed interest. It was decided that they would also have an election for a class president. Nominees would be chosen, they would make a campaign speech, and then the class would vote.

We discussed what kinds of qualifications the candidates should have, and Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot. Both students were good kids.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Everyone applauded.

He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream!" She sat down. The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."

Since her speech left the audience mystified, a discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure, but she did a very skillful little tap-dance and the question was forgotten. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it? She didn't know that either, but the class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ICE CREAM, and how eloquent their speaker was.

Jamie was suddenly forgotten and Olivia won by a landslide.

Every time Obama opened his mouth, he offered promises of ice cream, with words that resembled poetry. Fifty percent of the people reacted like nine-year-olds; they wanted ice cream. The other fifty percent knew they were going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

I agree with budnipper, a lot of have tried by letter writing, emailing and calling our elected representatives. Since TARP 1, poll after poll has shown the most of the American people were against the bailouts, because most of us were raised that you don’t award failure, you let it die or blow away, but with PC being the name of the game, we can’t allow success to flourish, because then those that are less successful or just down right unproductive gets their feeling hurts, and we sure can’t allow that, can we.

There is plenty of blame to go around from the excesses in the private sector, greed and mis-mangement and just outright stupidity in our government policies are all to blame for getting us in this mess. Now we have the government doing the excess borrowing, mismanagement, and partisan greed which is suppose going to get us out of this mess? What am I missing? These things need to run their course naturally, all we’ll end up doing is screwing things up worse.

I may be wrong, and will be the first to admit it but, I know of no examples where spending has gotten you out of debt? Such is life. :worried:

I’m not sure this is the right forum.

The brown shirt question rears it's ugly head again.

....Obama cited in a Colorado Springs campaign speech his plans for a civilian security force. At that time he said it should be as big and well-funded as the military – with a budget of hundreds of billions of dollars.
......

"If we're going to create some kind of national police force as big, powerful and well-funded as our combined U.S. military forces, isn't this rather a big deal?" Farah wrote. "I thought Democrats generally believed the U.S. spent too much on the military. How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?

"Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?" Farah wrote.

Here is a great video put together and posted on YouTube called 'We the People stimulus package' and it is a commentary on the issues of today. However, it's written and delivered as if it were founding father Thomas Paine’s reaction to the events of today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeYscnFpEyA&feature=channel_page

I don't agree wth everything he says, maybe 2%, but he really hits the nail on the head and should be required watching for everyone, because if folks would be intellectually honest, they'd have to agree with this guy. We do need to look in the mirror. But I feel most folks just blow this type of patriotic talk off as old fashion.

Maybe it's because I work for the DOD and had the honor to pledge my allegiance to protect, defend and follow the US Constitution and not any given president and when I make a pledge, that's as good as my word. And what I see happening to our once great country is sickening.

Maybe if everyone had to do this, things would be different and people would worry about our country, before themselves, cause I don't see living in other socialist countries around the world as being any great shakes, regardless of your money, unless you used it to buy your way into the inner clique.

Something to think about or not.;)

Interesting video.

Unfortunately, it does contain some glaring errors and misrepresentations.

For example, Congress DOES pay into social security- they are covered by FERS.

Congressmen DON'T get full salary for pension after just one term. They are covered by FERS.

There are quite a few misrepresentations in that video.

However, sending teabags to government employees isn't a bad idea.

In fact, maybe I'll set up a special P.O. Box in DC just to receive tea bags.

Then I can either sell the tea bags on e-bay.....

Or have tea for the rest of my life. :-)

Other than that- it is a pretty cool video. I like to see people fired up, and ready to go.

The Problem
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.09affc88c9815310300a92378aed056 4.2f1&show_article=1

"The British government apologised Wednesday after a damning official report into a hospital likened by one patient's relative to "a Third World" health centre."
"Julie Bailey, whose 86-year-old mother Bella died in the hospital in November 2007, said she and other family members slept in a chair at her bedside for eight weeks because they were so concerned about poor care.

"What we saw in those eight weeks will haunt us for the rest of our lives," said the 47-year-old. "We saw patients drinking out of flower vases they were so thirsty.

"There were patients wandering around the hospital and patients fighting. It was continuous through the night. Patients were screaming out in pain because you just could not get pain relief."

The Plan
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aI5mX_2Yfz7s&refer=worldwide

"The administration and congressional Democrats are debating whether to use a parliamentary procedure called reconciliation to advance some of the biggest items on the president’s agenda. The move would allow Democrats to approve plans to raise taxes by $1 trillion, create a cap-and-trade system to rein in greenhouse-gas emissions, and overhaul healthcare, without a single Repulican vote."

Yes, even more socialism the bHo wants to ram through Congress without any debate. Of course it's all for our own good, and who knows better than our elected officials?

Commentary: Budget a 'clear and present danger' to our kids

Editor's note: U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, represents New Hampshire. He withdrew his nomination for Commerce Secretary in the Obama administration in February.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Throughout our history, each generation made sacrifices to better the lives of the next generation. Part of the American dream has included passing on to your children hope for the future and the possibility of prosperity.

Yet, as Americans watch their jobs, savings and quality of life diminish during this very real and very serious economic downturn, many wonder: What will the future bring?

I understand their concerns -- times are tough -- but we are a strong and resilient nation, capable of recovering from this recession. Families, businesses and communities across the country are looking to Washington, Congress and the White House to steer the country toward a path of recovery and financial strength for the long term.

However, the blueprint for our nation's future, the president's budget, which was passed largely intact by Congress Thursday, does not offer a prescription for long-term growth and prosperity. Rather, by spending too much, taxing too much, and borrowing too much, it represents a clear and present danger to the financial health of our nation and to the financial security of our children.

The question that flummoxed the great orator

Barack Obama, the World's Greatest Orator (™all news organisations), didn't exactly cover himself in glory when the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson asked him a question about who was to blame for the financial crisis. Normally word perfect, Obama ummed, ahed and waffled for the best part of two and a half minutes. Here, John Crace decodes what he was really thinking ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/03/g20-barack-obama-nick-robinson-question

What a slam. Without his teleprompter, he's just a mere mortal and to think he was elected based on one great speech he read. Our press has always given him a pass on this, but always caught all the bushisms. ;) I wonder what that's called.

Just 53% Say Capitalism Better Than Socialism

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/just_53_say_capitalism_better_than_socialism

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure which is better.

Adults under 30 are essentially evenly divided: 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided. Thirty-somethings are a bit more supportive of the free-enterprise approach with 49% for capitalism and 26% for socialism. Adults over 40 strongly favor capitalism, and just 13% of those older Americans believe socialism is better.

Investors by a 5-to-1 margin choose capitalism. As for those who do not invest, 40% say capitalism is better while 25% prefer socialism.

There is a partisan gap as well. Republicans - by an 11-to-1 margin - favor capitalism. Democrats are much more closely divided: Just 39% say capitalism is better while 30% prefer socialism. As for those not affiliated with either major political party, 48% say capitalism is best, and 21% opt for socialism.... more (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/just_53_say_capitalism_better_than_socialism)

Watch these:

Roch Holdings.... stock symbol RO.SW on Yahoo, is the maker of "TAMAFLU", an anti-flu treament.

GLAXO SMITH KLIEN, stock symbol GSK. Also maker of flu vacines.

With all the adverse publicity this weekend on "Swine Flu", I would say that Monday these stocks will both have significant gains.

100 days BHO has crippled this country economiclly,
How? Banks are starting to report profits again..or are you "I want prosperity again overnight" kind of gloom and doomer and any thing short of that is failure?

This is really ignorant..Obviously the old saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" makes no sense to you either.

Okay. so you don't like stedfast resolve and confidence in the image of the leader of The United States of America.

I live in Chicago and I know what he is about and has been about, as well as the people he took with him to the capitol. It is a sad state of affairs.

Senator Arlen Specter
sees the light.....

I might feel differently if it were the other way around (ala Lieberman, although I thought that was also a little flaky) but I think this guy is despicable. He gets voted in as a republican and then screws his constituents? The reason he's switching?

"Specter told reporters that he received a "bleak" poll Friday from his advisers that showed virtually no chance of him winning in the GOP primary next spring against Pat Toomey, a former Republican House member who recently led the conservative Club for Growth. "

If I can't win as a republican, I'll just change my entire political philosphy.

I don't think he saw the light. I think someone showed him the money. :D Despicable - but that's politics.

From the DSCC today:

The Democrats welcomed Sen. Arlen Specter into our party today. He gave one simple reason for switching parties:

"Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

Joe Liberman was a bit different- he lost his primary to someone leaning pretty far left, and yet Joe didn't want to give up the fight, and ran and won as an independent. Now he caucuses with the democrats, yet campaigned for the republicans. I'd say that is pretty strange in and of itself-

The bottom line is this- the republican party used to be a mix of moderates and those right of center. With Specter gone, there are very, very few moderates remaining. The Democratic party has become the "big tent" party, with a wide range of diverse ideas and points of view.

My thought is that until the republican party learns that leaning so far to the right turns off the majority in the middle, it will continue to see defeats. At this point, there isn't much chance of the republicans being a mainstream American party anymore, until they change.

But, time will tell.

Which will happen first? Will the republicans become more moderate? Or will the dems simply shoot themselves in the foot, get middle America mad at them, and we end up with another "Throw all the bums out" switch?

Too soon to tell.

Anyway, welcome to Arlan to the "other side".

AN interesting note- I saw this tonight:

" Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Specter was rude "to effectively flip the bird" (http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/senate/43887297.html?page=2&c=y) to Senate Republicans, who were given little warning and will now have a harder time blocking Obama's expansive agenda on health care, energy and education.

Until that kind of language attitude changes, I don't seem much to draw people to the republican party. They seem to be shooting themselves in the foot at every turn with language like that. "flip the bird" does not protray professionalism in the least.

That was because of Rush's Operation Chaos.

Maybe. But I highly doubt it. I think there really were more dem voters than republican voters in PA in November.

If you think it was all Rush's Operation Chaos, how do you explain the November election results, where Obama won by more than 10% (http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/ElectionsInformation.aspx?FunctionID=13&ElectionID=28&OfficeID=1)?

That tells me voters really did want Obama. Not a Rush thing at all.

Here is an article from this afternoon-
---------------
Analysis: Specter leaves a shrinking GOP tent

WASHINGTON – With Sen. Arlen Specter's switch to the Democrats, the Republican Party is increasingly at risk of being viewed as a mostly Southern and solidly conservative party, an identity that might take years to overcome.

Specter's move, which rocked Congress and the political world Tuesday, is the latest blow to Republicans, especially in the Northeast, once a GOP stronghold. The region's Republicans now have been reduced to a scant presence in the House and a dwindling influence in the Senate.

But Specter's defection has symbolic and immediate ramifications for the GOP nationwide. It makes it easier for Democrats, fairly or not, to paint the party as ideologically rigid and alien to large swaths of the country.

Olympia Snowe of Maine, one of the Senate's few remaining moderate Republicans, called Specter's decision another sign that her party must move toward the center.

"Ultimately, we're heading to having the smallest political tent in history," Snowe said. "If the Republican Party fully intends to become a majority party in the future, it must move from the far right back toward the middle."

When you lock out all the moderates, you are left with a pretty small tent.

Nixon knew that- and did a lot to try and keep the middle involved.

Regan knew that- and also worked hard to bring the middle into the mainstream with the big tent theroy- with his commandment "speak no ill of fellow republicans".

Yep, a lot has changed since then.

Spector is a perfect example of what's wrong with this country and why it's goig down the crapper. He is more interested in getting re-elected, than he is for doing what's best for the country. He all but said that. He has no morals, principles or ethics and even if it means the Dims having a filibuster proof vote, I don't want anyone that can't stand for anything but getting himself re-elected.

The Libs may be celebrating, but remember, you are getting what you voted and wished for..... Socialism and the back door bastardization of the US Constitution. 2010 will tell the tale and I hope you'll be able to look your offspring in the eyes and say yeah I supported a doubling of our debt in 100 days, when it took that evil Bush 8 years to do it, and there is much more to come debt wise. We'd better really save like crazy, cause inflation is going to eat up our retirement. That's why the Eruo's are very reluctant to print money like we are, because they still remember what happened to Germany in the 30's when they did the same thing we are. History is just repeating itself. :worried:

Very interesting, it looks like the Southern Hemispere could be a good indicator of what we may see this winter, depending on the number of visitors they had to Mexico. But the msm sure is keeping alot of this under wraps, I guess to keep down the panic, but it sounds like it's here and spreading pretty rapidly. The only saving grace we may have is our flu season is almost over, so we may be able to come up with a flu shot before next flu season.

White House Denies Charge By Attorney that Administration Threatened to Destroy Investment Firm's Reputation

A leading bankruptcy attorney representing hedge funds and money managers told ABC News Saturday that Steve Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration's Auto Industry Task Force, threatened one of the firms, an investment bank, that if it continued to oppose the administration's Chrysler bankruptcy plan, the White House would use the White House press corps to destroy its reputation.

......

Thomas Lauria, Global Practice Head of the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Group at White & Case, told ABC News that Rattner suggested to an official of the boutique investment bank Perella Weinberg Partners that officials of the Obama White House would embarrass the firm for opposing the Obama administration plan, which President Obama announced Thursday, and which requires creditors to accept roughly 29 cents on the dollar for an estimated $6.8 billion owed by Chrysler.

.........

Perella Weinberg Partners, Lauria said, "was directly threatened by the White House and in essence compelled to withdraw its opposition to the deal under the threat that the full force of the White House press corps would destroy its reputation if it continued to fight. That’s how hard it is to stand on this side of the fence."

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/05/bankruptcy-atto.html

And yet another example of the thuggish WH and bHo against a group of people who were NOT breaking the law, maybe you can make a case for the morality, but no laws were broken. It sounds like the WH is taking pointers from the TSP board and changing/making up the rules when they feel like it and applying them to who don't toe the line.

How many examples do we need of this thuggishness and of course the WH is denying this. (shocked suprise emoticon).

Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Perella Weinberg Partners statement released tonight:
-------------------------------------------------------------

http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/03/white-house-perella-weinberg-deny-claims-of-threat-to-firm/?hp

Suggestions have been made that the Perella Weinberg Partners Xerion Fund changed its stance on the Chrysler restructuring due to pressure from White House officials. This is incorrect. The decision to accept and support the proposed deal was made by the Xerion Fund after reflecting carefully on the statement of the President when announcing Chrysler’s bankruptcy filing. In considering the President’s words and exercising our best investment judgment, we concluded that the risks of potentially severe capital loss that could arise from fighting this in bankruptcy court far outweighed any realistic potential upside.
We have a very specific mandate from our investors, and that is to carefully weigh investment risks and rewards. It is not our investment mandate to pursue political or risky legal campaigns with our investors’ money. This was our assessment of investment risk and reward, nothing else.

While we did and still do believe that the lenders would be justified in pressing their objections under conventional bankruptcy law principles, we believe a settlement would now be in the best interests of all parties in the context of avoiding a drawn out contested bankruptcy litigation proceeding, and we encourage our colleagues in the loan syndicate to pursue this immediately.

Full article:

http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/03/white-house-perella-weinberg-deny-claims-of-threat-to-firm/?hp

"...But representatives for the Obama administration and Perella Weinberg challenged the accuracy of the account by Thomas E. Lauria, the White & Case lawyer representing the handful of hedge funds calling themselves the Committee of Chrysler Non-Tarp Lenders (http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/30/chrysler-lenders-fault-government-as-bankruptcy-looms/).

“The charge is of course false as both parties who would know the facts have pointed out,” Bill Burton, a White House spokesman, told DealBook. “It is neither substantiated by people involved in the conversations nor by what has transpired over the course of the last couple of days.”

Perella Weinberg said in a statement (http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/03/white-house-perella-weinberg-deny-claims-of-threat-to-firm/?hp#statement) that the firm decided to back the government-proposed settlement Thursday afternoon, after Mr. Obama criticized the lenders in harsh terms.
----------------------------------------

If it is true that someone in the Administration threatened to use politics to bash the company, they should be fired immediately. NO question about it.

If it is not true, then the lawyer should retract his statement.

I would guess we'll here more over the next few days on this one.

NAMPA, Idaho Christian Newswire (http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/4880710855.html)
This marks the first time in the 42 year history of the event that a flyover request was denied by the Pentagon.
The event is held ever year to honor the spiritual foundations of our country with a special emphasis on the men and women who serve in the armed forces.
In past years, the "God and Country Rally" has focused on honoring and paying tribute to those veterans who have served our nation in the past and those who are currently on active duty.
At the rally this year, all five branches of the armed services were featured with over 60 new recruits sworn into the military at the event.
After a phone conversation and an e-mail response from the Pentagon, Rally Director Patti Syme says they were denied the request for a flyover this year because of the "Christian" nature of the event.
The Christian Defense Coalition says this is a "slap in the face" to all those who have proudly served or are currently on active duty in the armed services.
The group is concerned that this new policy may indicate an open hostility toward public expressions of faith by the Obama Administration.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "For years, flyovers have been allowed by the Pentagon at the 'God and Country Rally' in Nampa Idaho. These flyovers were not to endorse or promote any one religious faith tradition. Rather, they were held to honor and pay tribute to our heroic men and women who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces. "For the Obama Administration to deny a flyover for the first time, is a slap in the face to all those who proudly serve our country especially when we are at war. These flyovers have been a special part of the 'God and Country Rally' for many years. "Will the new policy of President Obama be that a person has to surrender their faith tradition to honor and pay tribute to our courageous men and women who serve in the military? "With respect to the economic concerns that the Pentagon mentioned, I would answer this way. If we can pay hundreds thousands of dollars for President Obama to go on a date with his wife to see a Broadway show and have an expensive dinner in New York City, we can certainly find a way to honor our brave men and women who serve in the armed services with a simple flyover. "The Christian Defense Coalition will diligently work to reverse this unjust policy and determine why this flyover was denied in the first place." Brandi Swindell, national Christian activist and Director of Generation Life, based in Idaho, adds, "For the Pentagon to deny this flyover for the first time in the history of our state is deeply troubling and disturbing. "During a time of war and especially around the 4th of July we should be doing all within our power as a nation to honor and respect our military. "It must be stressed that the flyover was not to honor Christianity but to honor our fallen heroes who have proudly given their lives to protect our country and advance the cause of liberty around the world. "Does this mean in the future that all public rallies must be stripped of any expressions of faith to respect our military? This Administration should be protecting religious expression in the public square not crushing it. "I hope that President Obama will reverse this unjust policy and next year we will be allowed to give the military the honor they deserve."

The e-mail from the Pentagon:
Thank you for your request for Air Force aviation support during God and Country Festival on 01 Jul
2009 in Nampa , ID.

We have carefully reviewed this particular event. As you may recall from the request form’s
instructions, the Department of Defense (DoD) authorizes the Air Force to participate in flyovers for
those recognition events held in direct support of the five patriotic holidays (Armed Forces Day,
Memorial Day, Independence Day, POW-MIA Day and Veterans Day) and for aviation-related events,
such as air shows and airport dedications. Sporting events that fall on one of the five patriotic holidays
mentioned above are not considered to be events held in direct support of a holiday commemoration
and will require a waiver.
Your Air Force aviation support request doesn’t fall into either approved category, as such, we are
unable to approve it. Air Force and DoD policy prohibit support for events which appear to endorse,
selectively benefit, or favor any special interest group, religious or ideological movement.
With an increasingly high operations tempo and limited resources to meet our training and operational
commitments, we are required to take a hard look at all of our requests and carefully follow our
policies and guidelines. In denying your request, we are not questioning the worthiness of the event,
but rather enforcing DoD and Air Force policy to preserve the operational and training requirements of
our aviation units and to practice the prudent stewardship of taxpayer-financed resources.
We hope that you can appreciate and understand our position. We believe that your event will,
nevertheless, be a success. Any further questions can be referred to me at 703-695-9664.

This is troubling in TWO aspects:
1) This is the kind of event I would willingly fight for - even give my life for - way before I would take this kind of action against a population because they have resources our country wants, or because the population looks different or thinks different and or their culture is 'foreign' to ours.

THIS IS WHAT 'WE SHOULD ULTIMATELY STAND FOR'

2) It's just another excuse to make a Cheap Attack against Obama

Why can't people just grow up - instead of blaming him for any infraction that occurs in our country

Perhaps your views are a little distorted? I don't see it as an attack at all. They simply stated that hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent for him to go to a play and dinner in NY but the Pentagon could not justify spending the money needed on a well deserved and traditional flyover. Also, the person hopes that President Obama will reverse this policy of the Pentagon in the future as I'm sure he is the only one with the power.

I read a lot of what you write on this board and generally like what you have to say. However, I think this time you have it wrong as far as the accusations. If one reads anything with a predisposed judgement, they will naturally come to a summation leaning towards that predisposition.........;)

Buster,
I thought about you last night. It was one of those nights where I'm totally exhausted and get the 'craziest ideas'

Anyway - Birch was talking about checking out Lakeside property

And I thought about him and I dressing up in Hare Christna outfits and smoking a bong in a glass bottomed boat while going around his lake. In that brief thought I pictured a bunch of colorful fish swimming around :cool::cool:

Earlier you said something about smoking a cigar sized doobie in another 10 months - (probably when you retire). So I thought at that moment for a Major Event like that; even though Dinosaurs were still walking around the last time I smoked - that I could maybe enjoy 1 or 2 puffs with you.

Well that conversation stirred up some old - very old - memories. I thought about the guy the Beatles hung around with who started 'Transitional Mediation' in his robe and beard - which in turn brought the Hare Chiristinas to mind.

Somehow that got blended in with Birch talking about looking a various Lakeside properties....

and the next thing I've got this amazing image ;)

That explains a lot. :D

Tried to give a series of 3 Big Grins - but exceeded the limit

Maybe, but I kinda doubt he made the decision. More likely some 0-4 or 5 said "no way, handle it Utley, I gotta go to (insert favorite) O Club, BX, staff meeting, wing commander ass kissing,...

People with a zero in front of their pay grade love to make decisions but will rarely put them in writing. That's why they have NCOs.

Obama bashing video

McDuck,
I understand this is your political thread, but I have recently asked you specifically to stop the Obama is the next Hitler rhetoric. I find this no different than the Reverand Wright hate speech.

I am going to talk this over with our mods. Don't be surprised if you are gone for a few weeks after deliberately defying our request. You were warned.

Ok. That will be fine. Please allow access to the site; I want to keep the autotracker updated.

Last time I was gone (October and November 08) were the months that I was in the autotracker top 5 (when I was +15% and others were -30%). Guess that shows that I can use my time better somewhere else.

Thanks, Tom. You are a good guy.

Not to butt in..but I guess I am..

Butt Greg..There is no doubt you are one VERY savvy investor and know the right times to move in your TSP accounts..I think nobody will deny you that distinction...I wish I was just half as good as you when it comes to this..

All kidding aside, if you were to stay strictly in the forums about money and TSP and other investment techniques..you would become the site's most valuable player...Your CONSTANT hate, rage and rants about people in politics is what detracts from your keen Stock Market expertise..

So I guess what I'm trying to say is; stay where you are good at and we all can come to benefit and appreciate you more for your market skills.

Good luck..hope you consider this idea before it's too late..;)
