fed,

they raised their price range on thursday, usually a good indication that it will open at least few percent higher than it prices. Would be a good bet if you can get an allocation of shares before it begins trading.

i don't have the cash available to buy before it hits the gen public. but i've heard several people in tech sales talk about the ipo. I think EMC still holds well over 50% of the stake though. What are the chances of a 10-20% pop after opening it up to eveyone?

used to be you get an allocation of 50-100 shares at Etrade, FBR, Fidelity. and a few others. Lehmna Brothers is underwriting so if you had an account with them, I'm sure you could get some. I never bought IPOs after they started trading. Still, if they've raised their pricing and/or number of shares, there's a good chance at 5+% after open. Just a guess tho

Hey fedgolfer, VMW priced at 29, top end of range, I'm showing bid/ask at around $50 on Archipelago level II. I don't know if it's trading on open market yet. Used to be IPOs would begin trading around 11:30 a.m.

ugh, way too high for me at $50. Will be interested to see the price action when it hits the secondary market.

looks like it opened at 55 around 9:57 and fell immediately to 50 and holding there

... there's enough volatility in the indexes. If EMC fills the gap and tests its recent lows, you think that would be a good buy. Still too soon to find a swing trade in VMW.

Futurestrader,

I was too scuurrred to buy the ipo in the volatile market. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. It exploded for a great swing trade.

looking ripe for breakin' out on a swing trade.

Although, what isn't today? :)
