Hurricane season just started and the “Hurricane Central” link to the weather channel is what I used to monitor storms last year. Their forecasts and actual tracks will help keep you one step ahead as they will move the stock markets.

I have been at sea during two really bad hurricanes. One was in the south pacific on the USS Enterprise. It was so severe that some of our F-14 aircraft were breaking their tie down chains. The other one was during hurricane Hugo on the USS Roosevelt, but that wasn’t too bad because we didn’t get too close to it, but the winds over the flight deck were still pretty bad. Anyway, maybe this link will help you, good luck!:cool:

While Hurricanes are no laughing matter, the fact that the first storm name is that of my ex is pretty funny. :D

My Ex’s name isn’t on the list either, but might be in 2013 when her payments stop!

I use to live in Brunswick, Georgia many moons ago after I left the Navy, nice place. But if you live along the coast you might get wet if you plan on an outdoor BBQ on Saturday!

You should check out weather underground. Ilike their hurricane tracker better as it's easier to move around.

http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/

Very cool way to track the hurricanes. The tracking maps and model forecasts are great tools.

I hope everyone weathers this season safely. Last season was a blessing (zero landfalls in the Atlantic due to intense sand storms from Africa affecting the Atlantic hurricane genesis region), but this season is shaping up to be a monster. The weather underground blogs are fascinating and informative.:cheesy: I'm a self confessed weather geek (there's a EE in every Geek):D

Good luck to everyone on the coast. ( I couldn't get Allstate to insure me as they will no longer write policies for coastal areas - sucks - I liked Allstate) :(

Malyla,

Please tell me there's no hurricane scheduled for last week of June, I'll be trying out my new polka dot bikini in PC Beach then!

It's a family tradition that I've seen through 3 husbands and all my/our/their children.

One summer, we actually arrived there, and couldn't even stay the night because hurricane was bearing down (guess we forgot to check the weather channel.)

You should check out weather underground.

Yep, I like the underground's models page. I think it gives you a better idea of probable path than the 3/5 day cone.

This tropical low is forming in the Central Atlantic, so you might want to keep an eye out for it to develop over the next week or so.

I’m still trying to recover my stock losses in July, so don’t even think about becoming a storm named Dean since that is my middle name!!

Basic info… It’s still too early to tell… But you might want to think about what it would do to the market if it becomes our first storm of the season.:cool:

The other area of interest is Tropical Depression #4. It is located some 1,900 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. The depression should strengthen as it races off to the west at 20 mph. It is anticipated that this system will gain tropcial storm status during the next 24 hours and would be called Dean.:D

Trop Storm Dean 8-14-07 :worried::worried:

http://www.weather.com/newscenter/hurricanecentral/2007/dean.html?from=hurricane_welcome (http://www.weather.com/newscenter/hurricanecentral/2007/dean.html?from=hurricane_welcome)

Tropical Depression 4 has now been upgraded to Tropical Storm Dean, the fourth named system of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season. It is located in the deep Atlantic centered in between the Lesser Antilles and the northwest coast of Africa. Dean is expected to gradually strengthen, reaching hurricane intensity prior to nearing the Lesser Antilles this weekend. Vacationers and residents of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico should monitor Dean very closely.

My wife and I were in Ocho Rios, Jamaica the first week of May. Most of the major buildings and hotels are built out of concrete. However, there are a lot of shacks built out of plywood and corrugated tin that will be blown away.

Looks like hurricane dean stayed well south. I just hope our buds in the south head for the hills!!!... There is another storm that could threaten Florida later this week, but it’s still a little too early… Enclosed a link from the hurricane center… Everyone have a great day and good luck with your TSP accounts!:cool:

I haven’t noticed much talk on market news about this storm, but it might cause stocks to turn down later this afternoon and Friday. I’m currently out of the markets looking for a G fund penny on Friday, but this could be a buying opportunity for stocks COB Friday. Good luck with your investments!:cool:

Things starting.

Will it be an active year? Or a normal year? Or a quiet year?

We'll find out soon....

The way I understand it, we are under the influence of El Nino this year. That means that the possibly of major hurricanes hitting the Gulf of Mexico area is unlikely do to a change in the weather patterns. The winds will basically be blowing from the West and take the tops out of the storms before they can form into hurricanes.

This Weather Report is written by nnuut and is not guaranteed to be correct, nnuut holds no responsibility for damage caused by Hurricanes or other cyclonic storms hitting the continental USA in 2009.:)

Every year come June, I cross my fingers. My dad finally just last year got my sister's roof repaired from 05. He had to travel from the Rockies to get it done, don't think he'll be able to make that trip again, he's getting up there. Sis just doesn't have what it takes to get it done by herself.

As part of my job, I had to fly to Texas last year to inspect / repair damage to some of our South Texas sites... It was pretty bad around Houston... Check out this web link... It might be a useful tool for your family... Good Luck!!:cool:
