Finally some legislation that makes some sense.

Out of the 20 carriers in my office - eight would retire in a NY minute.

you're kidding right?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67456.html

two thing jump out at me about that article:

if 100,000 employees accept a buyout, it would save the USPS $8 billion per year.

no way, you guys get average 80k for deliverying speigels catalogs and utility bills? and i don't even like either of those things, let alone want them delivered.

8/20=0.4? hey, you're not one of the 40% are you? you got to be 1 in 99 to actually protest.

yep, 80k! you should have taken the test!

and no, i'm not one of the 40% - but i'll be one of the 12 left, banking in all the overtime.

did you ever think of putting your name on the victoria secret catalog list? :toung:

Yes, some carriers do make $80 a year, but that is because we are on a hiring freeze and they are working tons of overtime to get the mail out. That figure is using wages and compensation.

If the new law makes it the carries will get hit hard because USPS will do more cluster boxes and curbside delieveries to save money and make the carriers carry and deliever more mail.

Wages savings include markups for benefits don't they?

I can't do that any more, on account of a court order. It's a long story, and partially explains the need for new curtains.

On a related note, I'm having a hard time finding a lawyer to help me sue Fruit-of-the-Loom, they really should put a warning label on their camo pattern boxer brief packaging.

No, your honor, I didn't think they could see me.

According to this press release,
http://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2011/pr11_wp_hbretirees_0812.pdf

benefits are costing 33% of payroll costs. So if you have someone making $60K a year in salary by the time you count in the overtime costs, then there is an additional $19,800 for their benefits. (Insurance, health insurance, sick leave, FERS share, etc, etc, etc.) That adds up to just shy of $80 K a year for a 60K year salary employee.

Dang! And here I am supervising 45 people in charge of nearly $20M in gov't revenue and not making that much. At least I get weekends and holidays off now. But hey, we don't do it for the money do we?

It's amazing what worker bees are expected to overcome with a smile on their faces. Flight Attendants and Pilots saw their pensions and benefits go poof and we the traveling public expected them to smile and welcome us on the planes. Our postal carrier was delivering mail until after 7pm last night because the scanners were malfunctioning at the sorting facility. While he wonders about his future and the years he's invested. And we need to compensate traders on Wall Street and executives at Fan+Fred to the tune of millions, just cuz. The Hamptons are humming. Chelsea gets a plum starter job at NBC. Where's the next park?

I love the USPS..they are a Proud tradition in this Country ever since the Pony Express...

But today it was announced on the news that Saturday Mail deliveries will become one for the History Books..No More Saturday Mail (http://www.nbcnews.com/business/postal-service-bids-farewell-mail-delivery-saturdays-1B8262819)..as of August of this year...

Tis a sad day when that happenshttp://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/forum/images/smilies/sadpansm1.gif..actually bitter sweet..But If it means saving the Post Office from total collapse..then I support that action..

Good luck USPS

This is just my opinion  but I don't think the PMG has the authority to do
the things that were announced yesterday.

My opinion is that he's playing the only card he has...social engineering.

He's playing the american public through the media and the employees
through announcements/meetings given by management.

His hoped for end result is a sh!t stir to try to get congress to act. But thats just my opinion... 22259

You totally right but he's had his hands tied by Congress for years now. Maybe this will force the Republican controlled House of Congress to make legislation that the public and USPS want and need instead of do what they do best. (kick the can down the road)

I remember the days when you had your own box and had to go pick up your mail. Those boxes with their combination locks made for great piggy banks.
