Go to Today's Item of the Day.

In another effort to keep TSP Talk a free site, I am going to try something new by offering some items for sale.  While you might find anything here on a given day, most of the items will come from my other business, Artists & Heirlooms, a fine art and antiques gallery.

The more I learned about money and investing, the more I concentrated on trying to buy assets rather than liabilities.  As an investor, collecting art and antiques seemed like the logical hobby for my wife and me.  We both enjoy it and we are able to buy items we like that will hold their value.  Items such as computers, stereo equipment, automobiles, toys (children's or adult's), etc., are liabilities that will lose value rather rapidly and eventually become worthless.  If you compare that to a quality piece of artwork or a hard to find antique or collectible, at the very least these items should hold their value and of course could increase.

I may also sell other items such as investment type books or tapes, and even some "liabilities" just to have a little fun.  I am hoping to have time to put up a new item each day but whatever the item up for sale, as soon as it is sold, it is over.  I will always offer the best deal I can and keep shipping costs low.

    I can accept
credit and debit cards, or PayPal payments.

    Today's Item...

Painted Stoneware Pottery - Suzanne Storer

Today we have a hand painted stoneware pottery platter.  This large platter is designed to hang on your wall and makes a great addition to any art collection.  The platter, entitled "Harvest", measures 17.5" in diameter.

    About the artist:
Suzanne Storer makes her living as a studio potter and relishes sharing her love of clay with people.
    Her
stoneware pottery evolves from the spirited imagery painted and pecked into the rock walls and boulders in the desert canyons of Southern Utah. She brings a modern sensibility to these ancient designs created by Native American Indians over 600-2000 years ago. She often varies the design elements and includes her own imagery to enhance the beauty of each piece.

The exact meaning of most of the original pictographs and petroglyphs has been lost. But pay attention to your own intuitive response. It will further your understanding and appreciation.

After drying the unfired pottery is decorated with a brush and colored terra sigillatas - supremely fine slips of clay. The black and white glazed pieces are dipped in white glaze, the design brushed on in wax and black glaze brushed over the top. All of her stoneware pottery is then fired high to 2140 degrees Fahrenheit making it durable and dishwasher safe. No lead is used.

This is a wonderful piece to add to any art collection, or just to add some color to your walls.
